I had one a few months ago and was terrified, but I worked myself up for nothing. It didn't hurt at all. In fact the worst part was the needle that froze me!

Not really. They give you medication to deaden it etc. The thing that people hate the most and the reason the procedure gets such a bad rap is that it takes a long time. The worst part is having your mouth propped open for so long with the rubber sheet over your tongue etc. It is irritating and your mouth does hurt afterward mostly from being stretched open. You also feel a lot of pressure during the procedure when they screw in the replacements for the root - but again , not painful just irritating and a little scary because you don't know what they are doing at the time. I have had three and really do not remember much pain. I have had worse pain following a simple filling! Relax and it will go fine!

I am not going to lie. I had a root canal yesterday and I do not agree that it is the least painful procedure. Remember that everyones pain threshold is different so whats painful for me, may not be for you. In most cases it needs to be done in two visits because it is such a long procedure. What hurt most for me was the clamp that goes around the tooth receiving the root canal. If you feel any pain from that be sure to let the densist know. In my case, anesthetic doesnt work very great so I needed several shots to make me numb enough to complete the procedure. If its available to you I would make sure to ask for nitrous oxide. It will be worth it. I was so nervous I was shaking the entire time, not from pain, just nerves. Remember, pain is different for everyone and if anthing hurts even a little, let the dentist know!

Don't worry about the bad spelling. OK, theres 2 things you can do for this: A)Get the root canal. You add up the total cost including the new tooth to be installed you're looking at 1500 dollars. B)Pull the tooth, drain the infection and it'll be healed. For about 300 dollars. Root canals CAN hurt, they can get infected, but its usually not as painfull as being infected.

It doesn't hurt at all. Be sure and take 800 mgs ibuprofen for swelling right after. If you are freaked out by it, you might want to get a 10mg valium from your doctor or dentist to be taken 90 min pre-procedure. Valium is a controlled substance, so you'll have to pick up the scrip at the office.

No, I've had a few. You are numb so you don;t feel it. After the numbness wears off you will feel like pressure in the spot but absolutely no pain. Some people have experienced pain but you get pain killers and they do work. Piece of cake. Don't worry! Most people feel nothing.

Didn't hurt me during, but afterwards is pretty painful. Make sure to keep up on some pain meds for a little while after to avoid this.

Shouldn't if you are properly frozen.
Make the nice dentist numb you from the eyeballs down and prescribe you a big blue bottle of Tylenol 3's.
You'll be happy as a clam suckin down apple juice through a straw.
