Definitely adopt if you can. Animal shelters get purebreeds in more than people think and PetCo and PetSmart also have adoptable purebreeds. Try to stay away from petstores even if they are low price...they tend to be overbred.

Have you considered checking with Husky Rescue organizations?
Have you tried speaking with the managers of your local animal shelters?
Have you thought of negotiation with a reputable Husky breeder? Sometimes a breeder will allow you to co-own a show dog of hers - the dog gets to live with you however you must bring the dog back and forth to the dog shows or you must allow the breeder to take the dog back and forth to the different dog shows and you must allow the dog to stay at the breeders house when she plans to mate the dog.
Depending on the type of agreement you make with the breeder, you can ask for a female or for a mating pair and in exchange for whelping a litter, you get to keep one puppy with full papers to with as you please and once she is finished showing and mating the original show dogs, you will have then fixed and then they become yours, without papers, for the rest of their natural lives.
You may say what it is in this for the breeder - well for the one or two show dogs that you have living in your home, you are paying for the food and medical care and for the grooming care - this saves the breeder money plus all the personal attention you are giving to her dogs, makes the dogs more outgoing and friendly and this pays off when the dogs are in the show ring.
When you whelp a litter for a breeder, you get to do all the work and you get to wean the puppies and the breeder gets custody of 6 or 8 nine or ten week old puppies that she can sell for say $1,000 per puppy and all she has to do is run an ad in the paper and then come to your home and pcik up the puppies when her customers are showing up - she collects the money and you did all the work and you are paid be getting a puppy of your own.
Now here is where things can get even more interesting - you can work with your breeder again to actually put your dog through the training and handling so that your dog can try to become a champion and then you and the breeder can become breeding partners, if you want to get into that part of the business.
You can be creative and so can the breeder, but if you want top quality dogs and your budget is tight, I find working out an agreement with a reputable breeder is one avenue that you should investigate.

Since you don't say where you are, here is a link and take it from there.

Please, be sure to read the part titled General Information about Siberian Huskies. As with any breed of animal, you always should research the breed. I am an owner of a Siberian Husky and there are many traits that you must be aware of prior to ownership to be sure they are a good match for you. No sense in owning one just because they are beautiful. I am also the proud owner of a mut. Both were rescued. Both are wonderful. Word of advice - muts have less genetical problems than pure breeds. I have a 42# mut who is 15 years, 9 months and still going strong. No arthritis. No cancers. Energy like she was 8 years old. Please, research the breed (or any breed you may be interested in) and make an informed decision. Adopt before buying from a breeder since there are so many unwanted pets in the world.

We have 2 Siberian Huskies. One we got as a stray, and the other we adopted from our local animal shelter for $75.00. While we love both of our dogs dearly, please do some research on huskies BEFORE getting one. They have certain personality traits that not everyone is willing or capable of handling. So please do some research first, and then see if you still want a husky. Best of luck to you.

It depends on where you live. I live in Houston and I would go to Husky Haven. Supposedly there is a husky haven in every state, so I recommend you do reasearch. Hope that helps

A responsible breeder.
Buying a "cheap" dog will cost you much later in vet bills, behavioral training, etc.
Why spend $100 on a dog that will most probably cost you $10,000 in vet bills later, when you can spend $700 on a dog from tested and healthy parents?

Go to your local humane society or look on petfinder.org
I have seen a couple gorgeous purebread huskies at humane societies. Let them know what you are looking for and they will call you and let you know when one comes in. Most don't charge more than 100 bucks for any dog.
