There are many things we can do. Unfortunately, most if not all involve either (a) returning to a simpler, more sustainable mode of living, or (b) repudiating the underpinnings of consumerism.
Buy locally grown, organic produce. You may pay a bit more, so eat less. This would also conserve resources put into battling obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes. Eat less.
Become vegetarian. Animal flesh consumes an inordinate amount of water, fuel, medicine, and other resources. By pumping animals full of anti-biotics, we are racing (and wasting resources) to find solutions to drug-resistant bacteria. To make that one pound of beef, it takes in excess of three pounds of food.
Take public transportation. People all over the world use PT. We in the USA would not consume 2/3 of the world's energy if our people took public transporation and if the present regime stressed development of PT.
Stop driving SUVs. 'nuff said.
Recycle, re-use, etc. Also, stop the wasteful shopping sprees at holidays and birthdays. Kids do not miss that stuff; half of it ends up in the garbage within several weeks, anyway.

Don't own a car, I walk to supermarket and costco. I buy vegetables that aren't on those rediculous trays, and try and cut down on other packaging.
Our building has recycling so I recycle what I can't reuse or reduce. It's an old building tho and landlord controls heat, not much I can do there. We limit the airconditioner, bought a good energy efficient one and use it on moneysaver and sleep in the guest room over summer because its easier to cool.
When I brush my teeth I turn the water off in between rinsings and usually spend 5 mins only in the shower. I try and do dishes carefully too - my wife makes me grind my teeth the way she leaves the water on the whole damn time lol.
Am thinking of signing up for wind power on part of my electric bill but money has been a little tight with wife having surgery so, that's not happening quite yet.
I try also and help 'convert' my friends into energy and water saving habits :)
A step in the right direction...

I ride the bicycle to work, don't turn the lights in the office on whenever its bright enough without, have installed compact fluorescent light bulbs in all fixtures, use the evaporative cooler & fans instead of air conditioner (in Phoenix in the summer), recycle, keep a compost pile & drive a Toyota Echo.
Also, I bought a Terrapass to offset my CO2 for the year of 2006.
Future resources will be much tighter.
1) The cost of energy will be higher.[in the forseeable future]
2) The cost of commodities, particularly metals (all, not just precious metals) & drinking water will be much more expensive.

I try riding my bike to work when I can, and other days my husband and I try to car pool. I figure if I can go even one day with out driving my car Iam making a difference. We also recycle, and reuse as much as possible. For example, instead of buying the plastic garbage can liners for our small waste paper baskets, we use the plastic bags that we get when we go grocery shopping. I also try to use warm water when washing cloths instead of hot. I think we have to try not to over look the small changes we can make because they all add up. If we keep using resources like we are, we are going to be in big trouble. I know that I would not want to be around in 100 years if this continues.

I drive a hybrid car, recycle everything I can, use all florescent lightbulbs in my apt., turn off lights/water etc. when not in use, and I work as a wildlife biologist and actively help monitor and save endangered species and remove invasive non-native plants.

we're overpopulating the planet. I dont worry because if we run into shortages before we figure out how to colonize other planets, we'll starve, the population will decline and every thing will be back in balance.

Well, I started by becoming literate enough to spell at least some words right.
I can see you have not reached that point yet.
Does your mommy know you are playing on the computer again?
