Because they were in a war when Japan was blown up, and they were warned many times by the US that they were going to get blown up. 9/11 was a complete surprise, and did not happen during wartime.

That would be really horrible to forget how thousands of people died. I'm sure people in Japan still remember the bombings.

i understand where you may be comming from with this question but I have to admit, you kinda worded it wrong. I see that you say it has been over five years already and with many other events that have happened to and because of the US we have already forgotten or at least put aside. This incident however, touched the lives of many people because it was the first incident that everyone in the USA actually saw or experienced in some way or another. Some had family members in teh buildings while others only saw the aftermath. Its kinda like when your out doing something and when you return home you find that your house had been burglarized. Its the shock that stuck with people. Also, remember that 90% of the people in teh USA have never really seen war or combat on a personal level. Most immigrants left so as to not be part of a war or conflict back in their home countries. The aftermath of wars is something that people do not forget and the destruction of the Trade Center was a version of aftermath of war.

Now, as for your comment on the A-bomb. People are still alive that lived through that war, WWII. Those that were alive fully understand the effect the bomb had on Japan. Anyone born after the bomb was dropped will not truely know the effects without witnessing them first hand. In fact, when it comes to history, the USA, and SOME european countries are the only ones that teach that the USA dropped the atomic bomb on Japan. In fact, in Japan, they do not tell students the extent of the damage. Most do not realize the damage and death it caused until they visit the Hiroshima Memorial. Their students are not told that they lost the war. They are told it just ended with no victor. In all reality, no american that has not visited Japan knows the true extent of damage or death. What you read in books or see in textbooks is only a small part of what actually happened. Now, ten years from now, when the kids that were born after 9/11 will be old enough, they will say the same thing we do about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, its over, deal with it.

Oh, and the real reason the USA dropped the bomb on Japan was NOT because they attacked us first. They attacked 4 years before we had the option to use the bomb. The reason the A-bomb was dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was because it was ment to be a deterent to the Japanese people. They wanted to use it as a warning to what could happen if our troops invaded the main island of japan. Notice how I said the main island. We already controlled many of the smaller islands that make up all of japan. It was used so that we would not have to send troops ashore. That war would have been much worse if we would have attacked the main island of japan with men and machines.

You have got to be kidding me!
First of all the only reason America blew up Japan is because the japanese bombed us first! 2ndly, We have a Pearl Harbour Day in memory and Japan has a mourning day too for their bombing. Its a bit insensitive to say we just forget about it and move on. If we forget than we might as well open ourselves up for another attack! thousands died 5 years ago today! The other bombings from world war 2 was 60 years ago. We shouldn't forget anything like that from history. Thats how we learn from mistakes, DON'T FORGET ABOUT IT!
Grow up!

The big deal about 9-11 is that innocent people were murdered. They were just going about their every day lives and their lives were ended for NO reason. The fact that you can ask a question like that makes me wonder if you are even worthy of being answered. How do you know what other people mourn, have you taken a poll or something. We mourn the loss of the people killed on 9-11 the same way Japan has the right to mourn about the atomic bomb. Who's stopping them.

Actually, the Japanese do still mourn that day, and it is remembered and respected in countries all over the world, as will 9/11 be. Perhaps in time, repeated images of the event will be less broadcast on TV, however don't forget that this is still a recent event and very fresh in the minds and hearts of those touched by it.

It is important that days like this are not forgotten.

yeah i agree somewhat,

the reason everyone is stressing it soo much is that so much has changed in the wake of things. for example airport security; two major wars etc so they make a huge fuss about it

japan still holds ceremonies for the h-bomb attacks

i think what the bigger question is, Is the rest of the world making a such a big deal out of this as we are?

thats what i would like to know. i know why we're making a big deal out of it i just wonder if these attacks happend in for example south africa would we even have news reports on it? good food for thought.

Sorry to the rest of the people, but I have to agree. I am so tired of hearing about 9/11, and a lot of the most affected families are, too. Let it rest, already. We have a memorial and a fund...let it go.

its more personal for those who lost their family members. I myself lost my older brother who was a fire fighter and a friend who was at the twin towers that day..it's very hard to forget about that. So what if it was 5 years ago? Do you really think that it is easy to forget about people close to you who died that day? I think not.
