Its a part of dental amalgam. Amalgams are mercury alloys with another metal. There are many of them. Silver/mercury is one of the more common. It is asserted by dentists that the mercury is rendered non-toxic as amalgam. This has been controversial. Mercury amalgams are still used in dental practice. Mercury salts are usually very poisonous. Mercury vapor is also, however the toxicity of pure mercury is disputed.

Oh, here we go. I knew someone who answered was going to bring up the whole toxic fluoride debate. Here is the deal. For as many places that you see online and in books and magazines that say both are toxic, you will see as many that disagree. Mercury is toxic in its liquid state, This is not the state that it is in when it is placed in fillings. We don't use amalgam fillings, but it is not because my doctor feels they are toxic.

Mercury is a very toxic heavy metal. Likewise fluoride is highly toxic to the human body.

we didn't used to know better. now we do. yes it's dangerous to put mercury in your mouth. we also used to take fetal xrays and drown schizophrenics as witches. now we don't as much.

thye didn't have anything else that would work back then yes thy can make some people very ill.
