Certainly, you can get a job if you homeschool. All you need to start with is a Social Security card, check your state law for minimum age of employment (it can vary from age 15 to 17) and you're good to go.

Not true at all. In fact, homeschooling looks good on a resume, as long as you actually worked off of a resonable schedule, there should be no problem getting a job. To work for a GED, the SAT's, or a kind of certificate that proves that you have had an education is a good idea(in my opinion). It helps get a job, and a good one too. Universities, colleges, and community colleges need a placement test as well upon entering. Most of them do at least.
Yet even if you're not going to college, it still is a good idea to have some sort of certificate.
Basically, it is no harder for a homeschool to get a job than a person who has gone through the public school system.

In all but one state (I think its Maine) homeschoolers do get diplomas. The parents can legally issue them. There are also many distance education programs through which a diploma can earned. In the vast majority of cases homeschoolers have no problems getting jobs with their parent issued diplomas, there is only one case I have heard of. This was a case of a homeschooler's diploma being refused when he applied as a security person at an airport shortly after 9/11. They were probably being more stringent because of the attacks. I believe he took a GED and got the job anyway. Most of the time, we aren't asked to show our diplomas anyway, we are asked if we graduated, homeschoolers can answer "yes" to that question because they graduated homeschool. I have never seen an application that words the question, "Did you graduate from a Public school or an accredited private school?"

Well, I must admit, you got my blood pressure up when I first read your question, thinking you were either acting like an idiot, or listening to one.
But, after re-reading it (and thankfully a phone call interrupted a rapid fire response, lol!!) I see that you are saying "have to be in a public school" meaning (I think) that you are talking about getting a job during the day like some seniors do to get out of last hour or something? (gosh do they still do that?)
My answer to that much more reasonable interpretation of your question is no, you do not have to be a public school student to hold a job if you are of school age.
OK, disclaimer here, every state is different, but in my state, I know probably 2 dozen upper high school homeschool students that work part time. Employers actually love them because of their flexibility.
so, sorry to misjudge you, but if you were being a smarty pants, then I take it back!!! LOL
interesting question,though. :)

Absolutely. As a homeschooling dad and employer, I have a unique prospective on this. My three oldest home-schooled children have each had interesting paid opportunities because they were home-schooled. My oldest son loves computers, and has been employed fixing and programming them for years. One of my daughters worked in a book distribution center one summer, and was able to work into September (when most of the other temp help had to go back to school). Another son loves construction, and is working to get his journeyman's certificate as he completes high school.
As an employer, I have hired home-school students during the school year and summer. I find them hard working, bright, honest, and flexible.
You can certainly get a job as a home-schooler. You may need to get a work permit (these can be issued by any public school to home-schoolers), but don't let that stop you. But remember, your education has to come first!

No you can get a job if you do home-schooling. Most places require you to be at least 16 years old. You would still have the same rules like the kids who go to school have such as no working after a certian time on school nights.

You can get a job as long as you are the right age. Whether you are homeschooled or not.
