Molly will not stop suckling because she was taken away from her mother much too soon or because she was not allowed to nurse enough. She is now emotionally damaged and will probably need to suck for the rest of her life. I would pick up a baby pacifier and a kitten baby bottle and let her suck - If you try to give her several hours of serious sucking therapy every day, you may be able to break this habit because she is still a kitten.

I once treated a cat that was this way and she was around 3 years old and it was so sad - I really think you just need to give in and let her suck until she has had enough - I believe that she will eventually get enough and then she will mature and out grow this habit similar to a child who is still sucking his fingers when he is 5 years old - leave him alone and he will stop on his on accord.

While you are allowing her to suck - start giving her other kinds of security, like wrap her up in a blanket and swaddle her like you would an infant, give her lots of hugs and attention - the more secure you can make her feel, the sooner she will give up this need for sucking.

Best of Luck to You

Personally, i dont agree that it has anything to do with the kitten being taken away from its mother too soon. From my own experience, we had one litter of kittens of which we kept all 5 (crazy yes), and also had the mother as well. Upon spaying all the kittens and mother, most of them still continued to suckle well after 3 months of age, when the mother cat permitted of course. We later got another cat, who at the time was older, yet much smaller in size than the kittens, and one of the girls took to her and started suckling her, despite the fact the new cat had not not had a litter, wasnt the cats mother and was half her size! This still occurs and the "kittens" are now well over a year old. The "mother" cat loves it, as long as she is allowed to clean her at the same time, or she gets cranky! I think it may have a lot to do with security, like children and also adults like to do certain things when they are feeling down perhaps, the cats feel the need to suckle, or as another example, clean each other. Its a form of contact for them. But who really knows what goes on inside a cats head? They are definitely more intelligent than us humans, thats for sure! After owning them all my life, im still in awe of these beautiful creatures. Just let ur kitten do her thing, im sure the mummy cat, or whoever is on the receiving end, will let her know when enuf is enuf ;)

Kittens tend to do this if they were taken away from their mother at too young of an age. Is she suckling off of her mother, if she is her mother will not consent to it sometime soon and will stop letting her nurse and she will be all set. Make sure that she can easily get to water and kitten food. If she is suckling on blankets and other objects, she was taken away too soon, and is just comforting herself. Enjoy your kitten, I bet shes a cutie, I have four cats and one dog and love every minute with them. Two are supervising me right now...one next to the keyboard and the other from the top of my printer...soaking up the heat, I am sure. Have a good night!

This is a natural thing that some cats do well into adult hood or their lifespan. Usually from being weaned too soon. They will nipple suck on other cats, even males or certain fabrics like fuzzy blankets, etc. http://petcaretips.net/wool_sucking.html

It is a very hard habit to break they are called wool sucking cats, good luck and I hope this points you in the right direction. My one cat was so bad that I had to give her to a friend for a while because she would not leave my male cat alone. She seems okay now but I do not know if she still does this when I am not looking? All I know is I do not see it and my male cat and her seem happy now.

It's not that unusual. I have seen kittens several months old who have tried to nurse. Provide Molly with water and kitten chow and discourage her suckling. If she is still nursing, her mother will be the one who eventually stops the behavior. Let nature take its course.

Do you mean nursing from the mama cat? It's not unheard of...the mama will push her away when Molly is ready to be weaned. If you have only Molly and she is suckling on objects, it's just a personality trait. My one-year-old kitten, Jack-Be-Little, still enjoys sucking on a woolen blanket and I find it very endearing :)

My cat/kitten became separated from her mom while she became 5 weeks previous. She quickly began to suckle the top of her tail. She's 17 months previous now and nevertheless does it. if reality be told, its a huge experience for her. We call it "tail time" and she or he get all lovey dovey and flops around while you puppy her on the mattress, and then finally she will pounce on her tail and circulate at it. i think of maximum cats suckle on issues, blanket, etc.

It could be that she was taken away from her mother too soon. It could also just be a habit. My cat used to suckle on his own teets but I think he was also taken away from his mother too soon. I would imagine that it may still be a comforting thing for her to do.

is she suckling her mother or objects? I had a cat that lost her mother at a very young age...she never stopped suckling...she would "nurse" our shirt collars and things like that...I always thought it was kinda cute

her mother was taken away from her to soon because kittens are suppose to have milk until they are three months old so that's probably why shes doing that.
