By proxy? Without having to enter American soil again as with an embassy or consulate using a lawyer or other legal means?
( This of course taking into account you have established residency status elsewhere. )

An embassy is not "American soil."

You must renounce in person, before a US consular officer. It is a simple process, but he or she has to be convinced that you really mean it, and that you have another place to live, since you will not be allowed to return to the US except as a foreign visitor with a foreign passport and visa, and will be subject to visa refusal if the interviewing officer believes you might want to live in the US again.

Americans can renounce their citizenship on foreign soil because it is a right. Better renounced in Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Pakistan and become deep penetration agents to Al Qaeda.

Residency status is not enough. You must be a citizen of another country. Then you go to the American Embassy in whatever country and file to renounce your citizenship.
