I try but my father just doesn't listen, at what point do I just let it go, I mean the guy does me a favor by spending time with my son freeing me up. But for example he was supposed to take him to lunch and I find out later that he just took him to a store where he gave him chocolate. Here I was after my father had left giving my son graham crackers and M&M thinking he had had lunch already! I was annoyed.
And then he doesn't put him to bed and leave the room he lays there on the floor til my son falls a sleep knowing full well that we have been letting him sleep independently for over a year now.

Call him out on it. Even grandpa needs to follow the rules.

I don't really have any rules for the grandparents. I feel time with grandma and grandpa should be fun. There aren't many things I insist they do. They are all very good with bed time, snacks and treats and even if they let her stay up late or have some extra treats it doesn't really bother me.

My grandmother spoiled us and let us do everything my mother wouldn't and all I have is fond, loving memories of my grandmother.

My mother in law does these things all the time. It drives you crazy. But after years of trying to tell her the "rules" I have given up. I have finally come to the conclusion that as long as she follows the main rules (babies on their back to sleep and other safety issues) I let it go. I know it's hard but if your kid comes back in one piece and has a great time with Grandpa, let it go. It will save you SO much fighting. Hope this helps.

That stuff is annoying, but really it's harmless. Your dad raised you and you turned out okay, right? Don't worry too much about that. be glad your child has a grandparent to spend time with. A lot of kids don't, and even though your dad's actions irritate you now, it could lead to some great memories for your child later.

GRANDPARENTS ARE WONDERFUL, BUT YOUR THE PARENT! IF DAD CAN'T FOLLOW THE RULES, THEN DAD NEEDS TO JUST VISIT AT YOUR HOME AND LEAVE. FIND A FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER WHO CAN FOLLOW YOUR RULES AS THE PARENT TO GIVE YOU SOME FREE TIME AWAY FROM YOUR SON.

my childrens grandparents didn't follow the rules with my kids and they both turned out fine...a bond was formed that to this day brings them a smile over what I didn't approve of... i'm now guilty of the same thing with my grandkids and my children have decided that wonderful memories are more important then rules .... remember grandparents aren't around long enough.....

Insist that the rules that you've set for your children are supported and carried out by the grandparents. It has to happen.

I was a stickler for my rules being followed. But then I didn't rely on grandparents to watch my children.

Okay he is your son. If it is causing problems you have to do something. Grandparents have a tendancy to spoil our kids but you shouldn't just have to accept that it is the way things are.

i would fully enforce your father to listen to you.
if he trully cares he wont spaz on the fact that he is taking his time to take care of your son so you can have some alone/work time.
what will happen in the future when your son gets older and starts wondering which one he is supposed to listen to?
