So, god, who is also his own son (apparently evidenced by the fact that a supposed virgin gave birth)...anyway, god sacrificed himself to himself so he could return him to himself, and mankind was forgiven of things that only god regarded as sinful in the first place.

What's with the elaborate plot? Why not just a big voice in the sky saying, "Okay, guys, I made a few mistakes, but believe in me and everything'll be cool."

Let's suppose that I work in an aquarium, and the sharks are all acting up. In order to get them to behave, I go to my son and say, "hey, we're going to throw you to the sharks. All right by you?"

Same story. Makes just as much sense, which is none at all.

And he manifested in flesh why, exactly?

You guys have missed the point: Why was it necessary to save us from our sins in the first place? Surely god could just tell us: "I FORGIVE YOU! Just believe in me!" and get on with his... well... whatever he does.

Last additional comment, hopefully: I did not ask this question to flamebait or troll... hopefully most of you realize that. I am genuinely curious as to see how Christians hold these paradoxical qualities in their heads at the same time.

Jesus Christ is God manifest in the flesh, the word made flesh, the express image of the invisible God. He is God, always has been, and always will be. There is only One God Deut 6:4. You are applying trinitarian logic to a singular God. It doesn't work that way.

God made a sinless sacrifice for sin, born ouside of the lineage of Adam. God is a Holy God. He will not be in the presence of sin. The sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ was the only atoning blood that could bridge the gap between God and flesh and bring man back into communion with Him.

Well, I'm not gonna say read the bible. After 2000 years it can't all be true or correct. Tell a friend a story and listen to it once twenty people have restated it. Does it sound the same? No? So why would the bible be the ultimate truth on paper?
Anyway, Jesus is the son of God. Just as all of us are sons and daughters. He is different from us though. He was made to be the example of what we should all strive to be like. That's what I think. Take it or leave it.

First and foremost, let's be clear; God does not make mistakes.

God has the power to have created us like 'lemmings'. A bunch of people who have been pre-programmed to love him "by default". Wouldn't seem very 'real' would it? Infact, it wouldn't be very satisfying because you could never say that they came of their own accord.

God knew before creating anything what His plan would be - from beginning to end and thereafter.

God gave people free will so that we have choices to make during our lives. He also gives us guidelines in the Bible as to what pleases him.

In the Old Testament men were not in God's books. Sure there were few, like Moses and his family - that's why he was saved from the flood.

God sent us Jesus as a model as to how to act, treat one another and show us the way to God. That's why it says "the only way to the Lord is through His son". Again, it goes back to individual's choices and free will.

Even the creation of Jesus... it's not like he was flashy and easy to see for miles coming. Jesus followed His fathers guidelines to the T. And he wasn't "pre-programmed" by God upon birth. Jesus too had choices to make, just like us, and showed His Father (God) that He'll be part of God's plan, even when he doesn't understand. ("Farther why have you forsaken me?"). Remember, Jesus was tempted in the desert for 40 days to show His Father that he was committed.

Jesus could have copped out and saved himself; but that would defeat the purpose. Remember.. God doesn't make mistakes and Jesus was the big part of God's plan to find people on the earth that will want a relationship with God naturally and genuinely knowing that all we have to do is trust and believe.

Good Luck & God Bless

HI friend, God the Father God the Son & God the Holy spirit r one God but still three persons! see (Matthew 3:16,17) It was Jesus who made us(John 1:1- 4) he made provision before, that if man should brake the Law he whould die in his place, everything is govern by Law, ex... if u dont breathed u die! also how about the law that govern's the land? if someone was to kill one of your love ones fore no reason ? what whould make it wroung? u see Sin is the trangression of the Law, (1 John 3;4) Jesus did not had to die for us but out of love for us the Creator chose to die for the Creature! Why did God made us for in the first place? (Hebrews 2:1-10) Man the least of God Created Beinges were made to represent God before the universe , for u see satan wanted worship (Isaiah 14: 11-16) so he accus God's Goverment of being unjust & in so doing he manage to deceive 1/3 of the angels! when Jesus come's back for us (John 14: 1-4)those who will go with him will replace those fallun angels & reign with him(2 Timothy 2:8-12, Revelation 20:6, 1 Corinthians 6:2,3) For more detail info look at the books The Great Controversy & The Desire Of Ages @ www. I have asked the same question myself and come to the conclusion that people everywhere do what their told to do and believe what their told to believe by those who they respect or fear, because that is human nature. Yet. Jesus, a man who never wrote one word about himself, becomes the word of God? People who are the most screwed up on the planet, believe his death saves them? Then, God says to him, come home now and he does by being hung on a cross, dying for all to see and worship evidenced by "God doesn't expect you to understand everything he does. Jesus is the only perfect person who's ever walked the earth and He died on the cross to save you & me. That was His sole purpose here on earth; to spread the good news and to die for us". We can't tell them thats two purposes by the way. or that Jesus teaches that we too can do what he does and even greater because they imagine Jesus was a gift to the Jews, so they must follow jewish ways to get this gift. Jesus was and is a gift to all who would follow his lifes teachings, not his death! Love each other, love each other! Do we? If we do, then we will be saved. By our own love!

God didnt say hi from the sky because it wants you to have faith. Which its apparant you dont have. If God was dictating everything in your life you wouldnt be human you'd be a robot. Yeah its difficult to say why hasnt God revealed itself to us? Why hasnt it told us the right way? But its called this thing free will. It wanted us not to just live for God but for its people. That is very important to God and that is why free will is such a gift. If God was there dictating our lives it wouldn't mean as much. I believe good people are the way to heaven. No person knows who or what God exactly is so if you are good to others (the love thy neighbor thing) then you are good for God.

BAD ANALOGY.

I was trying to think of one and there really isn't one that we of so little love can comprehend.

Perhaps the closest is our military who often times put their lives on the line so we can have this freedom of speech that we all use.

When my son was in the military (Marines) I realized more poignantly the great sacrifice God had made and what an awesome Son he had that was willing to lower Himself to our level, just so we could have a choice.

If you choose not to believe that, well we have the freedom of choice here in America to state that.

Jesus was sent to save us all from our sins.

Go to www.bible.com and read the book of John. Then Acts, Romans, Matthew, Mark and Luke...continue through the New Testament until you are done (skip Revelation until you've read the Old Testament).

May you find the grace of the living God and His Son Jesus.

Grace to you and God Bless!

How should I put this mildly?
FOOL!! I did not say it the Bible did "The fool says in his heart there is no God" well; you just have to read the Bible to find out, also spiritual things are very hard to understand if you are not spiritual minded.First it is not a knowing or a touching or a seen thing with this Jesus person is a faith thing,OK.
