the girl i love asked me to live with her and i failed to make good on her request. i feel i am doomed to a lifetime of misery having missed this opportunity when i could have at last made myself happy and found some redemption for my miserable soul. she is moving this week and i am hurting so bad it is nigh unbearable. i am cursed, i say! cursed for the rest of my days...

Basically my view on living together is pretty negative. First of all, relationships are difficult under the best of circumstances. So I don't understand why I would set up to live by such low expectations for the relationship. In living with the other, you're sending the message that it's ok to get all the benefits of marriage without any of the responsibilities. It says that marriage isn't important to you and it's ok for you to think less of me. The percentage of men who marry women with whom they have lived with first is low. So if you want to do it, know that marriage is not a likely outcome.

I think every person is allowed to do whatever they want. I lived out of wedlock for 9 years, but then I decided it was time to get married. Looking back on it, I feel like I should have got married a long time ago...there's alot of benefits. You know what they say...why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

If you love someone and want to be with them you don't have to get married. Why isn't it enought to be married in your heart? Marriage is a piece of paper. Love and commitment is a boundless connection two people share. Only religious phycos think its morally wrong to live together out of wedlock. If you want to be with someone why let something as silly as marriage get in the way. I'm not anti-marriage but I don't think everyone has to get married to be happy and pure.

of course its ok. As long as you are happy then all is great. I have lived with a couple guys before and its perfectly fine. Alot of people never get married and just live together for the rest of their lives and dont feel obligated to get married. I have a friend that has never been married and has been with the same man for 20 years and she is perfectly happy with her relationship and even has two kids out of the unmarried situation. Its all in how you prefer to live your life.

Happy days :)

It's been proven that living together does not decrease the chances of divorce but increases it. It's a type of disrespect you give each other. Since you can't trust the other person enough to marry them you'll just be living together instead. Mistrust is the reason for common law relationships.

Why not? The old reason was that illegitimate children were stigmatized. That's just not the case, any longer. If people are committed a marriage certificate won't make them any more so. If they are not committed, then they become more divorced statistics, anyhow.

I believe that the recognition of "holy matrimony" by the Church is not nearly as old as the Church itself (700 yrs?)

This is 2006.

I think you should live together before marriage. This way you will know more about the person, not just the "I'm ready for going out with you" person.....

No I do not! It leads to so much misunderstanding. There's no honor in it.For the times that we live in,it's sooo commonplace and many people think that there is no type of consequences for this type of behavior. And so a word to the ignorant-PEACE!
