He was aged between 18 & 22 in the army on the DMZ in Korea and Viet Nam. I was a little kid when he went in. I remember he brought the medals home but has refused to speak of what ever happened to earn them. I know he thought I was too young then. I'm nearly 50 and I want to know what my brother went through. His boot camp was at Fort Bragg,N.C. in 1967. He then went straight to Nam.

The only place where the details may have been written down is in his personal service record; even then, they were giving out so many purple hearts that they were often not recorded. To request his service record, see the site below. You will need his signature or the signature of his next-of-kin in order to obtain it.

You will be able to find the award criteria for those at the below site (click on the specific medal to read the criteria).

To find out exactly why they were awarded your brother, you will need his military records. BUT: if your brother is still living, the military will not give you his records without his permission.
