How diverse and complex is Portuguese language? the Portuguese literature? difference in Portuguese portuguese and Brazilian portuguese? Are they almost two different languages? English is a germanic language yet it is completely different from German, Dutch, Danish, Swedish and Austrian. Each has its own varying degree of difficulty and complexity.. which was why i wanted to know how complex or/and difficult portuguese is..

The differences in Brazilian Portuguese and the Portuguese spoken in Portugal is much like the differences between American English and British English, or the Spanish from Spain versus the Spanish from any other Latin American country.
Changes take place because of new things that appear and need names and because of things that people make up that just stick. Take bling-bling for example. It became popular and is now used and understood by many.
The division will not be stopped, but perhaps slowed as compared to the history. Many changes ocurred in the past due to isolation. We do not have isolation anymore with the ease of communication and travel.
I believe that Portuguese is as diverse and complex as French or Spanish. It is very similar and would be easier or harder to learn based on the languages that you have learned prior to attempting Portuguese.

The portuguese language is a latin language like Spanish, French, Italian and Rumenian. It is no more complex than the other latin languages. The spelling is pretty straight foward and a lot easier than French. The main differences between Brazilian Portugues and Portuguese from portugal are the pronuniciation and a few words that have different meanings. Some could get in you in quite a lot of trouble, like rapariga which means young girl in portugal and prostitute in Brazilian. In the end, the difference between the two languages is similiar to the difference between British English.
