Mine shuts off automatically also...the lighted on/off switch lets you know when your coffeemaker is on or not. Most machines also have a brewing pause ‘n serve so you pour a cup of coffee while it is still brewing. But I shut it off a few minutes after the coffee has brewed so it will not taste bitter or stale from sitting on a hot burner for an long period of time. (Nothing worse than a cup of mud) If if isn't hot enough, I reheat it in the Microwave. Plus, I unplug it because in the past there was cause that Mr. Coffee Machines started on fire by themselves.....

After the coffee has finished dripping the only thing that is "ON" is the warming plate. You can turn it off at any time after the coffee has dripped depending on how long you want it to stay hot.

Wel, it really depends on how muddy you like your coffee and how much you intend to pay for electricity. The rule of thumb is just to drink it all and turn it off. If it's only a four-cupper, that couldn't take more than an hour...

Usually perking s done in 10-15 minutes...you'll know it's finished when it stops dripping!
