I'm not sure if any of you analyzed the arrest of 50 cent in his $300,000 Lamborghini Murcielago but basically:

rapper 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson) was arrested around 2:00PM in Manhattan on Friday. Law enforcement officials in an unmarked car pulled over the star's silver Lamborghini at the corner of 8th Ave. and 35th Ave. in Midtown New York after they say he made an unsafe lane change.
Police tell TMZ they removed Fiddy from his car and cuffed him in front of several witnesses. Because of the crowd that began gathering around the scene, cops determined it to be an unsafe situation so they took him to a police station down the street from the scene. The car was not towed as police tell TMZ there was no reason to impound the car.

Police issued 50 four summons: one for an unsafe lane change, one because his driver's license had expired, one because his Lambo is unregistered with the state and another because the car is also uninsured. He was issued the tickets and released.

Now considering the fact that 50 Cent is a well known (worldwide) rapper and has such a high profile...why was it neccessary for him to be handcuffed and put in the back of a patrol car? He wasn't going anywhere. He wasn't a flight risk.

Before you answer that, I'd like to share my own incite into what I feel is racism, or at the very least RACIAL PROFILING by the NYPD.

I was driving my SUV in Manhattan. Harlem and I spotted a dark blue Lamborghini GALLARDO. a Young Black guy was driving it. Mind you, this car costs about $175,000. Not as much as supercars like the Phantom and Bentley but, its style is extremely flashy.
I saw a unmarked DT NYPD car shadowing the Gallardo with 3 White cops inside it - like a damn hockey team.
Basically, they were following him around - with no sirens as if he'd done something wrong.

To put things simply, I KNOW the cops were following him, SIMPLY waiting for him to do something wrong: be it unsafe lane change, turn signal violation, etc just so they'd have just cause to pull him out, search him etc.

Basically, Unmarked police vehicles and palin clothes officers in the NYPD allways seem to be involved in some sh!t such as unjustified shootings, or otherwise simply because they abuse their power and STALK / HARRASS people.

If you are one of those people who claims that the COPS were justified following 50 CENT, then I have 2 questions.

#1 Would COPS shadow an expensive sports car such as a MERCEDES SLR MCLAREN or even a LAMBORGHINI around if it was being driven by a White Man (mid 40's or older) in WALL STREET DISTRICT?
#2 Would cops have pulled DONALD TRUMP or CONAN OBRIAN out of a car with similarly unregistered/ unmarkedness?
#3 IF it became neccessary to arrest a WHITE POP STAR or WHITE CELEBRITY, WOULD COPS HAVE HANDCUFFED THEM if they hadn't acted in a violent manner?

2006-09-11 13:14:21 · update #3

In my observation, RICH, WHITE, Stars and celebs that do get arrested are almost NEVER HANDCUFFED by police or FEDS and they get in and out of police cars with dignity as if they were merely being "ESCORTED" downtown for qeustioning.

Is it any wonder why there is anti-police sentiment and violence in the minority community?

I'm not defending 50's actions (driving with an expired license & lack of insurance) because they are inappropriate, but lets put things in context. How convenient was it that there were several plain clothes detectives on the scene able to stop a motorist for an unsafe lane change?

Obviously, the cops saw him and formed an equation in their mind.

Minority driver + superluxury car = unsafe lane change

First I would like to say that I am not stupid and I know that things like this happen.

However what you are describing at first is that a crowd was formed and the police determined that it was unsafe so they took him into custody. They didn't arrest him. He got his tickets and was set free.

He was put into handcuffs because when ever ANYONE is taken into custody they are put in handcuffs. The cops can't worry about the crowd being around them. Their safety comes first.

Not too long ago a man beat his child to death in Florida. He lied to the cops about his real name and his gf, the child's mother, didn't tell the cops a peace of vital information. This guy had a handcuff key around his neck. He killed the 2 decorated detectives that took him into custody and then a sheriff and took a store clerk hostage. He died that day also. He was WHITE.

I say step off your soap box. People like you are the ones that keep racism alive. I'm willing to bet that you were not even there when it happened and since he did have more then just one violation I say the police were justified.

50 cent is not Dave chappelle or Bill Cosby...He may be somewhat of a celebrity BUT He is an ex-con with convictions on weapons charges, assaults, and drug dealing and should be treated with the same suspicion as any violent felon. If you meant 8th ave/w.35 st in manhattan that is a popular area for prostitution/street walkers and not the typical demographic area for that car to be so that in itself could be deemed suspicious. I've also seen many paparazzi pics of celebrities cuffed and most were white so there goes most of allegations made in this attempt at racebaiting/racism.

Perhaps the event was unjustified. However, even black cabbies don't pick up black people late at night. Why? They have been ripped off too many times. Remember Danny Glover's lawsuit?

The way minorities are dealt with is a problem. But some minorities are a problem, too, even to other minorities.

I agree with you 10000000%. Why didn't they do the same to Paris Hilton, who was caught DRUNK DRIVING just a few days before that happened?
