Take her out to a nice dinner and a movie, and maybe make her some sort of memorial for the dog so she'll always have fond memories of the dog.

There isnt much you can do to cheer up your aunty except to just be there for her. The same thing happened to my mum and her cat, it was near one of the most heart breaking things I've ever seen. Maybe you could try some things that we tried such as getting some nice pictures blown up and put into nice picture frames as a lovely way of remembering....apart from this, Im not too sure. Con't do what I know some might suggest and get her a replacement dog, that's just not the thing to do, it cheapens the loss and gives the impression that everything is easily replaceable. I really am sorry to hear such sad news. :( I hope your aunt feels better soon. :(

Let her talk about her feelings. Let her cry. Do not just "buy her a new one". Having someone in your life for 15 years, and then losing them, of course, there will be a lot of sad times, and a lot of mad times.

Give her the courtesy of letting her grieve, grieve with her. Let her cry and be mad. Don't offer answers or solutions, just let her grieve however is best for her.

But, don't buy her a new dog, buy her a box of kleenex and just listen to her stories. When she's ready for a new dog, she'll get one -- when she's ready.

Losing a pet can be just as devastating as losing a spouse or child.

Keep a close eye on your aunt to be sure she doesn't fall into a deep depression.

Tell her her Shih Tzu was the lucky dog being loved and cared for by her.

Tell her to get another one to pass on the love.

Trying to cheer her up when she is so sad won't work. Instead, just talk with her. Ask about the dogs life...her favorite times with it. What made this dog different from all others.
Spending time and listening will be the best thing you can do for her,

You should help her cheer up by taking her mind off of her dog; you could take her to the movies and do things like that. Have a saturday just where you two do things together. That could help her take her mind off of the dog for a little while. :D sorry if this doesn't help..but it should. :D

buy her a darl colored weater, but before you wrap it, rub it all over her house and pick up as much dog hair as you can...then wrap it. that way she can see how the rest of us dress after visiting her home.

Bring your own pet (or a friends) over to play. It helped me when I lost my cat.

Send her a nice sympathy card to let her know you are thinking of her.
