Bernese mountain dogs are beautiful, intelligent, easy going dogs who are really good with kids. They are, however, dogs who don't do well at all changing homes after they're about a year and a half old - they don't adjust well to new owners.

The have medium length coats which require regular brushing and the dogs need long walks every day and some obedience training would be good because they are a large dog.

They are generally friendly, however I have seen far too many that are a little flaky temperment wise. They can have a lot of health problems also. They are not for the novice dog owner and can be a costly breed.
If you get one, MAKE SURE the parents had their hips and elbows cleared by OFA at 2+ years. Otherwise you are asking for problems!!!!
Also, go and see the parents (sire may not be there) and see what their temperment is like. Do not get one from there if they seem jumpy, aggressive,or shy. These traits are not what the breed should have.
Cancer is also an issue in the breed, although they have made strides toward improving that.

Yeah, and it is BERNESE.

if you are reffering to the Bouvier of Bernice, i can tell you they are large breed dogs( the male from 45-50 kg, female from 30 to 40 kg), with tricoloured coat( being the black predominant, with brown limbs and paws and white areas over the head, face and chest), slightly curly hair, fallen ears, long tail, and solid, thick front and hind limbs. They are very sociable, specially with kids, have good temper, but in my experience not very intelligent, but trainable. This breed is a multipurpose one(shepperd, carrier, guard, etc.). they are popular in europe.

You have to be careful that they don't get bloat also. When I worked at a vets office we used to have one that came in she was the sweatest thing in the world unfortunately her family lost her to bloat. It was after hours and the emergency vet was over an hour away and she died on the way there.
