i am a foriegn student who just came to study in chicago. Due to really low budget, i bought my car from the internet and i got ripped off. the car has some problems which i already spent a large amount of money fixing them, but now it's still not completely repaired. Because i am in urgent need of money to live, so i really want to sell this car in really short time, can anyone tell me which is the best way i sell this car? (dealer? or internet? or sell it to machanics?) i just need some money back ,i don't want to cheat any other buyer and i need to sell it in a short time. And please tell me more details about the steps to sell a car...thanks a lot!!

If you car is driveable, sell it to Carmax. As long as it doesn't break down while they test it, you should get a decent cash offer. Don't worry about screwing them cause they normally sell it off to auctions or dismantlers.

I wouldn't sell it privately because it sounds as though you'll need to lie about it's condition to get any kind of interest. And if it breaks down, the new owner is likely to make your life miserable.

Sounds like you got screwed.....sorry about that!! Today is your lucky day though...im a Mgr. at a Car Dealer in Chgo.......here are some ideas: Depending on how bad your car is you could try to clean it up (dress up wheels, etc) and sell it on the street* this will take longest* or you can try Carmax they will buy vehicle from you at low price , can try a local dealer to purchase from u but they will give rough price to purchase , look at Chgo Fire Dept. ...they buy cars to do fire drills & jaws of life presentations , also u can try the Joliet Motor Speedway for crash cars if worst case scenario comes up...last ditch effort is to donate it for tax savings or sell it to junk yard for parts!! Again it depends on how bad your car is ...if its ok then row with it..take your chances!!

Well, check out http://www.autotrader.com
They are pretty detailed on their policies.

You could also sell it in a local newspaper or even put a sign on the window that says you are selling it.
