There is some much info. on losing weight, special diets etc.. which is fine as it seems so much of the population needs to lose some.
But for me I need to gain some!
I recently broke my collar bone in three places, the result apart from 3 wks. flat on my back in agony (even if I fart3d)! Is that I lost 1.5 stone not in three weeks of course! over a period of 4 mths.
I have just about got full use of my arm again and almost got the muscle back. The big problem is I always found putting on weight very difficult anyway before the accident, I have a high metobloic rate (maybe) The more I eat the more I have to burn off.
Anyway I need some advice or help towards a good diet to increase my weight I don't want to body build, just add some wholesomeness.
I have searched the internet and all I find is body building potions..
I'm sure there must be many skinny guys out there that also could do with some help!
NO STUPID ANSWERS LIKE EAT MORE!
I'm 6ft and weigh 11.5 stone.
can you help?

Years ago, I tried gaining weight, and like you I had a high metabolic rate.
I tried weight gain drinks, eating a lot more, (I already ate a lot!,) and protein supplements. I was consuming enough food and calories to feed 5-6 people a day, I never gained an ounce.
I was training in Karate 6 days a week, (4-5 hours a day,) and like I said, didn't gain an ounce.
When I had quit Karate, I started to go to the gym regularly just to stay in shape.
I found that by lifting increasingly heavy weights, and exhausting my muscles, I started to gain bigger muscles and with it, bulk and weight gain.
If you start going to the gym, take it easy and don't rush to start with.
Make sure you are over your injuries, and within weeks you will start to notice a difference.
I also would not encourage ,(at this stage,) buying expensive 'Body Building Potions', or food additives or supplements, just eat healthily, and take in a balanced mix of proteins and carbohydrates.
Do it right and with patience you will achieve your goal.

P,S Don't eat just before going to bed, you're better off eating properly during the day!!!

Its very easy actually to put on weight..

I had the same problem.. i was very thin with a very high metobolic rate, I found eating a very dark meat like steak with a high carb like potato alot it works the opposit way to the atkins diet.. because your mixing your protein with high carbs..

i look a health 13 stone now and i am tall, i dont look so gaunt and measlie round the edges.. it

maye if you drank a protein shake daily, i know you can get big pots from healt stores for very cheap.. and add it to you every day meals that ar high in carbs.. you should notice the difference..

I also found eating before bed works well aswell like junk food... i.e chocolates or crisps.. not too much

its not hard, and it will give you an appertite when you need it..

I forgot to mention i am 6ft too

Ive got the same problem. Holland and Barrett Body Fortress Weight Gain shakes are good, 2 a day along with regular meals and you will fill out in no time. It sounds grim but the strawberry flavour is quite nice.

2 problems though- as soon as you stop taking them the weight drops off, and they give you terrible wind!

Gaining weight(muscle) always comes down to the basic principle of increasing your calorie intake above the level you need to maintain your current weight.
For a person with a high metabolic rate your maintenance level = weight in pounds x 16
For every pound you want to gain per week you need to eat 500 calories a day more than your maintenance level. Try to eat more starchy carbs e.g. pasta or bread and try to eat a portion of protein with each meal e.g chicken breast
Eating sufficient food spread between 5-6 meals rather than 3 helps to increase muscle gain as opposed to gain in bodyfat.
You could try taking a multivitamin each day and if you find it difficult to consume enough calories use a weight gain drink. Drink ing at least 2 litres of water a day helps as well.
If you still arent gaining weight, you need to increase your calorie intake even higher to maybe 4000-5000 calories per day.

Changing your diet like this will make you gain weight, but if you want the weight gain to be mainly muscle as opposed to fat you need to start working out. Start out following this full body routine 3 times a week and you should see great results soon:

Squat 10 reps
Deadlift 10 reps
Pullup 10 reps
Bench press 10 reps
Bicep curl 10 reps
Tricep extension 10 reps
Shoulder press 10 reps
Calf raise 10 reps
Shrug 10 reps
Dip 10 reps

Try and increase the weight slightly from one workout to the next. Also get at least 8 hours sleep every night.
You say you dont want to bodybuild so reduce your calorie intake slightly when you have gained as much weight as you want to.

Hope this helps, e-mail me if you want anymore advice

consume more calories than you use up through the day, (to find your average multiply your height in centimetres and then divide this by your weight in Kilos) yous should come up with a number in the region of 20 21 or 22 (if a man) multiply by 100 and you get your average bodily calorific intake.

Also try eating pasta, potatoes and anything with a high level of carbohydrates. You could also try training with weights, as muscle is heavier than fat

Protein Shakes Holland And Barrett

Eat things like peanut butter, nuts and fruit, full-fat yogurt (like greek yogurt), cheese, sausages, and use lots of olive oil in your cooking. Eat bread with every meal (a friend of mine was stick thin and put on 2st by doing that - nothing else had worked for her before)

1 cup of coffee increases your metabolism by up to 10%, so drink decaf coffee (or half and half if you can't bear to give up the caffeine). Smoking also increases your metabolism and stops you being hungry but you know that already.

Don't go silly on junk food, you might put on weight but you'll also feel like cr*p.
