I have been talking to someone for 9 months now, once on phone. Two times we tried to meet up didn't work out. He is a dad with 2 small children, me mom with small child. He lives 2 states away from me. Should I just forget this whole thing and cut my losses?

Is one of you willing to move to another state if things can work out? If not then I wouldn't waste your time.
You probably met this person on the internet and can't be sure if you really know anything about him. He could be a child molster for all you know. Spend your time finding a guy that lives close so you can have a normal relationship. And don't let the guy near your child until you know him very well. And then only let the child get attached to him if you know he will be staying around. It's tough on kids to get attached to your boyfriend only to have them basically abandon them. There is no way this long distance phone relationship will work out. It's a total waste of time.

No, of course not. Everyone deserves every shot at happiness he or she can get. Just don't forget that while you are talking to him, you can still be meeting men in your own area as well. If things work out with him eventually, then the two of you can become committed to each other. Until then, date around.
