the bank gets all your info and they make you talk to a immigration person, and you tell them all your info(name, parents names, address, phone number...etc)

You get a TIN (taxpayer's identification number) from the IRS. File form W-7. See link below for official info.

If you have a valid visa to be in this country, you can apply for an EIN number - it's just like a social security number. But without either an EIN or SS# you will not be able to open a bank account.

Andy is correct. Talk to the Bank they will tell you if you get the right person.
Most don't care who or what you are-they like new accounts. But they will watch if you have strange activity in your account. And will record it.

You don't need a SS to open an account, you just need a counsular ID card and some other type of ID, at least that's what you need here in AZ.

How can you get a bank account with out a ssn how can you get a ssn if your an illegal alien...Do you have permission to be here by our government if so then go to your local social security office and they will give you a new one...if you have permission to be here just take a birth certificat and Id to the office..

my friend is an international student, which means she has no ss #.. she opened an account the very next day she got here with BofA. Now if that's not the case for you... well.....

no what kind of bank did u go to? here in chicago if u dont have a ssn they take ur consular id.

You have to have a s.s # to get a bank account.I just got my son one.

They have to have an SSN to report any interest you may acquire
