We've seen a number of situations in which Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan have been killed in "friendly fire" by Americans. How would Americans react if the situation were reversed?

I think it depends on the situation in any 'friendly fire' case whether it is within one's own armed forces or an ally's. Being upfront and apologetic hopefully will help ease the pain of those who lost a loved one while delaying information or not admitting to an accident might cause further pain and distrust. It is tough when a country like Canada loses troops in any situation.....they are a great ally of the U.S. But to me, it isn't the act of 'friendly fire' that is in question but rather the attitude of those in charge after an incident has occurred.

This is the severe component of war ...we forget as we bicker back and forth , that the ones that die from "friendly ordinance" were there to do thier duty , and stay alive . You cant pass judgement on situational awareness , unless you have been through it . I believe that the soldiers that are fighting in Afghanistan are in the most dangerous place next to Iraq , I would re-enlist , but I have a "million dollar wound " . My buddies in the 10th mountain div. are there now , I would be too. I would wish it to be myself to serve again , instead of someone that has family here or in Canada . Fathers , uncles, brothers , aunts , sisters , mothers and other devoted , are there to commit thier mission . You find out after "making contact with the people" , that your job becomes staying alive . I weep for these brave folks . I question your motivation in this question ; it seems that if you have had experienced "suspicious awarenes" from combat , you wouldnt even dare ask.

I am glad to see that you take such joy in the deaths of the Canadian soldiers. I can see that your agenda is much more important than the lives of these men who gave their lives so you could live free of terrorism.

I suppose the Americans would also understand that unfortunately friendly fire is part of war, even with a highly trained army like Canada's.

I would call you pathetic but it would be a waste of time.

Many Americans have been killed by friendly fire, not only our own but other countries as well. Remember the USS Stark? Probably not. Unlike many of you more ignorant people on here, most people in the military understand the risks of war and accept them. We mourn the death of all warriors, sometimes even our enemies, no matter how they died. Dead is dead, doesn't matter how you get dead. You people that don't believe in fighting for anything, are my favorite kind of people, you are the next generation of victims. You are the ones that will be on your knees in a football stadium waiting for a bullet in the back of your head. I hope I live to see it. Look at it this way, at least you will finally get a look at real world peace!!!

I don't know what tree your barking up? It was not intentional in any. We feel sorrow for the loss of our comrades in arms. From the air, everybody looks like a ant. The forward air controllers failed to properly mark where the friendlies were. Sad, but a accident of war. Other than that, I suggest your treading on thin ice.

" A number"? Can you name a source? I only find stories of two such incidents in the last four years. Of course that's two to many but why exaggerate if you feel you have a valid point.Anyway,I believe most of us would be sad but understand that people get killed in war zones. Do you believe we would react any differently than Canadians?

Obviously they would be upset! That is such a ridiculous question. I hate to break it to you, but in war, people sometimes die. It is a fact. It is unfortunate that friendly fire incidents occur, but it happens. It has always happened--this is nothing new for the US or any other country.

The same way Canadians do we would mourn our dead and wish to God it hadn't happened! Nobody should be killed in friendly fire but to be honest you have to realize these soldiers are taken across the world and handed a gun told to fight or die they are young in their teens most of them are scared and afraid. You are trying to say we should chase them down and punish them I realize but please think about this. These brave men and women did not intentionally want to harm Canadians who we think of here in the U.S.A. as part of our own country. If you think for one second that we are not paying attention to the friendly fire incidences here in this country then then you are very much mistaken to be honest we mourn with you one and all!

As I recalll we've lost Americans to American friendly fire as well. It happens when large numbers of people with guns are shooting at one another.... It's not nice and I'm sorry a Canadian soldier was shot by US friendly fire, but accidents do happen.

We'd be sad.

Why do you think we'd feel any other way?

Guess what - American forces get killed by friendly fire by people in their own units. It happens unfortunately.
