My sister has this also. She uses a cream that was prescribed by a dermatologist. Going to the tanning salon will help it lessen faster but if you don't like going to the tanning salon, being out in the sun as much as possible will lessen it also. I hope this helps.

Psoriasis is actually is related to the immune system. If it is psoriasis, you are producing new skin cells far faster than someone who does not have the condition. Sometimes, if you have a small 'patch' an over the counter steroid cream works well. It is best to go see your doctor and confirm your diagnosis before you try to treat it. I have suffered from psoriasis since I was 9 yrs old (I am 32 now). There is no cure for psoriasis but it is controllable. Vitamin D works well also.

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.
I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.
And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.
And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

Psoriasis is a disease that takes place when the body’s immune system mistakenly believes healthy skin cells to be enemy cells and starts to produce many more new cells to replace these cells. This is the reason why there is no cure for psoriasis and medications applied to treat psoriasis are only able to remove the symptoms temporarily. Don't go the "cream route", it's only just a waste of time and money. Been there Done that!
You need to read "Psoriasis Free For Life" by Katy Wilson if you want to cure your psoriasis for good. Available online also @ http://www.psoriasisforeverfree.com It's a book that shows you how to cure psoriasis naturally in a few days. I cured my psoriasis permanently in 6 days after reading this book. Good luck!

It is absolutely essential that you get a product called Perma-Clear (Code #SF741) made by Thorne Research, Dover, Idaho, USA Zip 83825. from your local Naturopath. The gut must be cleaned out/detoxified. Creams may help the itch, etc. but the cure comes from within the body. Psoriasis can be cured...please believe me!!! I know because I am living proof! And most dermatologists DON'T know what a Naturopath knows. Good luck! Nip this in the bud.
P.S. Are you sure you have psoriasis?? You've done a lot of scraping there.

Treatment
Psoriasis has no cure. Whenever you get episodes of psoriasis, you can be treated to clear the same. After that it may recur in weeks or years. No one can predict that. Your doctor may choose any of the following treatments.
Topical Steroids:
Steroids are one of the common medications for psoriasis. Strong steroids should not be used for a long period. Your doctor will tell you about the applications. Psoriasis patients prefer steroids because they are much cleaner to apply than messy coal tar applications. For severe cases of psoriasis, coal tar applications have to be used. Steroids, though much cleaner in use and highly effective, cannot be used for long. They thin the skin and lose their effect if used for long. Steroids are not a medication that can be used for long time without worrying about the consequences.
Coal Tar Applications:
In this application, refined coal tar is used in different forms. You get creams, gels, sticks and ointments. Your doctor will decide if you need to use coal tar applications. One has to take care while using coal tar applications before going out in the sun as they can cause sunburns.
Anthralin Or Dithranol:
This is an effective medication for psoriasis. It may be sometimes very irritating. Using it on body folds or face is not advised. Similarly, fair skinned people should not use it. Your doctor will guide you about the use.
Vitamin D Analogues:
The recent additions are Vitamin D analogues, which are used topically. They are not recommended to treat patches on face. These compounds may cause some irritation in the beginning but that clears after some time.
UV Treatment:
Psoriasis responds to UV treatment very satisfactorily. You may be treated with UVA, UVB or PUVA. They are all different ways of getting exposed to UV radiation. This cannot be done at home and you will have to go to a facility to get this done. Your doctor will guide you about the treatment and other aspects.
Sun:
The sun is also good for psoriasis treatment. But you should first talk to the doctor about the total time of exposure in the sun otherwise damaging sunrays may create other complications.
Oral Medications:
There are many oral medications for psoriasis. They are used only after the failure of topicals. Oral medications can cause many side-effects such as liver and kidney functions and some are potent immuno-suppressants. Your doctor will closely monitor you while giving you these medications.
Rest & Relaxation:
Psoriasis has some relation with stress. If you rest and be stress-free, psoriasis responds well.
Care:
Similarly, you must use enough moisturizers or emollient creams to keep the plaques soft, and stop development of very dry skin and more itching.

First, make sure you are diagnosed by a dermatologist. There is a wide variety of treatments available, depending on the type and severity of the psoriasis. Most common to start with include cortisone creams or coal tar treatments. There are other prescriptions available topically, the dermatologist will explain them to you. Make sure you research the side effects of everything. Ultra-violet light treatments may help - A or B, with or without meds, depending again on your condition. It's important to keep the skin hydrated as well, so lots of general creams and lotions to moisturize. I wish you luck! I got it when I was 22, and it has been no fun to deal with. If you need it, make sure you get a prescription to help with the itching too - because you need to leave the plaques alone.

The Vermont Country Store http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/jump.jsp?itemType=CATEGORY&itemID=4 has some products that are for specifically for psoriasis. These include Mazon soap and creams and other products. Also if you can find a product may with Dead Sea Salt, that is supposed to help too.
Your Doctor might have a prescription product that would work even better.
