bread pudding

INGREDIENTS:

* 5 cups day-old bread cubes
* 4 cups scalded milk
* 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled
* 1 cup white sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 4 eggs, beaten
* 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
* 1 cup raisins (optional)
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/2 tablespoon cornstarch
* 1 cup hot water
* 2 tablespoons butter
* 3 tablespoons lemon juice
* 1 tablespoon lemon zest

DIRECTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Spray an 8x11 inch casserole with nonstick spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine bread cubes, 1 cup sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix in raisins, if desired.
3. In another bowl, blend milk, melted butter, and eggs. Add wet ingredients to dry, and mix together without turning bread mixture into mush. Pour mixture into prepared casserole dish.
4. Place casserole dish into a larger baking pan. Pour hot water into baking pan about 1/3 up the side of the casserole dish, creating a water bath. Bake for 45 minutes.
5. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, 1 cup hot water, 2 tablespoons butter, lemon juice, and lemon zest. Cook on medium heat until bubbling and thickened. Stir constantly to avoid scorching. Serve with bread pudding.

Pepperoni Stromboli

2 loaves (1 pound each) frozen bread dough - thawed

1/2 cup spaghetti or pizza sauce

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

4 ounces sliced pepperoni

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Punch dough down. On a lightly floured surface, roll each loaf into a 20" by 8" rectangle. Place one rectangle on a greased baking sheet.

Spread spaghetti sauce in an 18" by 4" strip down the center. Sprinkle with oregano, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese. Fold long sides of dough up towards filling; set aside.

Cut the remaining rectangle into three strips. Loosely braid strips; pinch ends to seal. Place braid on top of the cheese; pinch braid to dough to seal. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

Bake at 350° F. for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

ive been to a resturant where they serve a hearty beef soup inside a scoped out loaf of very crusty bread. Ive also seen a fancy spinich dip served in hollowed out bread. With that you could serve sliced ham and cheese and a green salad.

Here are a couple of ideas for you.

1.Stuff a chicken or couple of Cornish game hens with a good bread stuffing or:
2.ever had soup in a bread bowl? Hollow out a round loaf (loosely) and fill with a chowder type soup.
3. You can also use a round hollowed out bread as a dip holder. Use thawed out frozen (and squeezed )spinach and cream cheese, or sour cream, onion soup mix, chopped up water chestnuts, mix and fill your bread. Serve with veggies and cutup bread chunks.
Have fun

Homemade soup always goes well with homemade bread. Add a salad and you're all set. Other suggestions are Pasta with garlic bread, open faced sandwiches made with fresh bread. Stews and chili are always good with bread.

Ok - you could make cinnamon toast or French toast for breakfast.

For lunch - you could make a grilled cheese sandwich.

For dinner - you could make an Onion Soup and float a slice of toasted bread on the top.

For dessert - serve bread pudding.
