She is now in Kindergarten and has made quite a few friends. We had thought about the usual, Chuck E. Cheese, skating rinks, that type of thing. Her birthday is in December and with Christmas right around the same time I really should try to keep the cost down. Some of those birthday parties can get expensive, as you all know. Does anyone have any other new and creative ideas for children's birthday parties? Something that she will enjoy, but that may be a little less expensive? Thank you all for your help!!! Have a great day.

Chanel . I'm hurt that you think only moms deal with birthdays for their little angels .but I'm prepared to over look this.. lol.. And give you a few tips that I used on my daughters birthday party . I went and bought a heap of large white sheets of paper and In an empty bedroom I taped the walls with them then with a thin plank and marker I drew squares all over the walls Then I drew in windows and a large door in which I drew pictures of scenery from a story book they were a bit rough but passable In essences I turned the room into one from a castle when the girls turned up I placed a trestle table with white table cloth on it set out a kiddy banquet and of fairy bread little hot dogs and such we had a treasure hunt for a magic wand and pinned the tail on prince charming the girls loved that we played leap frog and danced to their choice of music and the best and silliest dances were given prizes . the Lolly bags were filled with those glass stones and plastic diamonds from Solomons mines and a when the moms came to pick up the girls we shower each mom with a hand full of love you mom fairy sparkles . not bad for an old dad hey

You have to keep it simple. Have the party at your house and you can get decorations at the dollar store. When I was in Kindergarten I didn't care about where I had the party but more about spending time with my friends. You can also play games outside like S.P.U.D. Here's how you play:
1. Everybody's in a circle.
2. One person has the ball and is in the middle.
3. Everybody gets a number.
4. The person who's in the middle calls a number.
5. Everyone runs away while the person who's number it was gets the ball.
6. That person says freeze and everyone freezes where they are and CAN'T move during that time.
7. The person takes every step by saying "S, P, U, D,"
8. They throw the ball at the closest person and if that person is hit then they are "it" and starts it all over again.

Have a cookie decorating party. I do this every December. I bake a huge batch of gingerbread men, big and small from the Good housekeeping website. I make a few bowels of different colored decorative frosting, and every kind of sprinkles I can find. Put everything on the table and the kids love to get to decorating. Afterwards, they play while I clean up which is usually just removing the tablecloth with all the plastic bowels and plates with it, then the kids enjoy a snack and their cookies, or if they want they can take them home.

And for a cake you can get one of those giant cookies (though they may be "cookied out")

I can sympathize completly with your struggle as far as dates are concerned, my son's birthday is 10 days before Christmas! Trying to seperate the holidays is very difficult, especially when on a budget. I would suggest a "Girls Only Slumber Party" (I obviously have done the boys only) and do crafts that the girls can bring home in lieu of goody bags (I have done painted/decorated t-shirts for the kids every year since '00 and they LOVE them!). A great idea would be purchase inexpensive baskets or bags at Walmart/Target, at a crafts/sewing store pick up some beads and ribbons, maybe puffy paint and set up stations for them to work in steps. Once done, pop some popcorn, throw in a movie and cuddle up! By morning their baskets will be dry/finished in time to go home.

I hope this helped! Good Luck!

For an all girl-party, some nail polish and play makeup usually keeps them happy for awhile. If there will be boys, you could do a craft party with paper and scissors, crayons and markers. Have them make something to take back to their parents for a treat. Since it is near Christmas-time, this could work to accent some decorations for the house. Or have them create something that you will then use to decorate your house. My oldest daughter (21 now) has a birthday near Halloween and we used to have her guests create spooky drawings that we would hang up all around the house.

Whatever happened to old fashioned birthday parties? My best friend used to have normal, run-of-the mill parties, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs, duck duck goose, things like that. And ice cream cake. And i still remember them, 20 odd years later.
Or if your daughter and her friends are mature enough for a sleep over, that is always a simple one. Pizza, a movie, some popcorn and soda, and a bunch of giggly little girls is always good fun.

You could rent one of those bounce houses or slides. Last year i rented a room in our church and they charged like $30. You could also have them set it up at a park. You may have to get permission for that though. Here is a sight that might help you on how to plan an inexpensive party. Hope this helps! Good luck! my kids birthday are July and August so close together so I always look for something inexpensive yet fun.

When my daughter was about that age I went to the dollar store and bought cheap one time cameras and got a box full of old clothes, dresses, hats jewelry, boots, shoes etc from the
Salvation Army Store, balloons and when the kids came we had cake and ice cream and then I let them loose dressing up like old ladies, some of the kids put balloons in their backside and made the dresses look funny and some of the kids put them in their bodices as boobies and made themselves look like they had a big stomach etc and then I gave each girl a camera and let them take picture of themselves. The mothers were really good about getting the pictures developed and the kids had a lot of fun sharing and looking at the party pictures.

On My 6th b-day, my mom invited everyone over while i was outside swimming in our pool. then she let me inside to find a surprise Barbie Party. Maybe because it is around X-mas, try throwing a winter-based party, with snow like immatation decarations. Make it a surprise and bring party popers that will add a fun touch to the party for every one!

On my daughter's 5th birthday we decided to make it a girl only party... We invited all her little girl friends over to our house, they played dress-up beauty pageant... Then we played some fun party games that my daughter and her friends liked.... And for the cake we made cup cakes and each of the girls decorated their own cup cake.... I made goodie bag's for each child.... It was so fun my daughter wants to do the same thing next year....
