peanuts are usually on caramel apples. It's easy to tell the difference between caramel and candy apples - caramel apples are brown because of the caramel on the outside and candy apples are bright red like, well, the color candy apple.

Crushed peanuts or walnuts on the caramel apples which are just apples dipped in melted caramels. Candy apples are apples dipped in a syrup mixture with red food coloring and it hardens when cool. They are not covered with nuts, usually.

Peanuts on carmel apples like you buy at the fair. But if you are making them, try pecans. They're good too.

Usually you'll find crushed peanuts... that's what I saw on the last label. I've seen them though with cashews, pecans, and walnuts... guess I still like the peanuts myself.
