Using any basis of argument, whether it be from the Bible or from your own logic, please tell me if you think that cursing is immoral. If you think that cursing is immoral, please tell me whether saying anus is any different from saying ***-hole and why.

Personally, I don't think cursing is wrong, but if you give a good explanation saying otherwise, I will not hesitate to give you the 10 points.

Batata, by your logic, if I am insulting God if I say, "I ate too much and now I've got to take a s***." Am I right in understanding this, or does that phrase just mean: "I need to use the bathroom"?

oldguy63, I mean saying "What the f*** is wrong with you?", not "Damn God."

Keep in mind that the Bible wasn't written in English, so it's not going to say that certain English words are forbidden.

Curse words are words just like every other word in the dictionary, and truthfully, I've been hurt more with regular words because they tend to come out of intellectuals that know what they're talking about.

Cursing isn't "wrong" or "immoral". If used at inappropriate times, it'll make you look stupid. It all depends on the context of such words.

Short answer: Yes, I believe cursing is very wrong

Long answer: The Bible says "Let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouth", and I would consider cursing unwholesome. Also, one of the ten commandments is "Do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain". Since many of the curse words are swearing, like oh my f***ing God, or for the love of Christ, then to curse is to break one of God's holy laws.
Besides what the Bible says, I think it is just rude. Maybe you curse in front of your Grandma, but I would be skinned alive if I did so in front of mine. Therefore, I use my Grandma as a sort of check point. If I would feel uncomfortable doing something in front of her, I have a feeling it's wrong, because she is an upright Christian woman that I respect greatly.

As for anus being different than that other word, think about how people use those words. Anus is usually just referred to in the context of life science, or just talking about the human body. The other word you mentioned is used to insult or degrade someone. If it were not, then I would say there was no difference between the words, but society has made a new definition for ***-hole, so there is a big difference.

I hope this is a helpful answer, and good luck with your investigation.

cursing isnt terrible but really there is no point in saying them. Most people can see through curse words and tend not to use them, which is why when they hear someone else say one, it gets a reaction out of them. I can also see why someone may see cursing is bad, and again, it is because most people dont hear them on a regular basis, which is why some people look at them as "bad". I mean if you grew up hearing curse words, then you wouldnt hesitate to use one would you? but to someone that hadnt heard one t'ill they were 17, think of the reaction!!---Really good question by the way.

Only an idea can be immoral; the expression of it is not. You can write f_ck and everyone knows you meant to say "****" but that's okay because you didn't actually say it. How can sounds or letters be immoral. It's the meaning behind the sounds or letters that is immoral or not immoral. Personally, I don't think there is anything immoral about *******, but whether there is or isn't has everything to do with the act itself, not what letters or sounds you use to describe it. If ******* is immoral, it is immoral whether I say "****" or screw or intercourse or whatever.

I believe any and all (and i am being hypocritical here) insults are immoral...

(Matt: 5;22) "But now I tell you: whoever is angry with his brother will be brought to trial, whoever calls his brother 'You good for nothing!' will be brought before the council, and whoever calls his brother a worthless fool will be in danger of going to the fire of hell.

Though most people curse once in a while, it is generally thought of as rude. (obviously) i choose to avoid doing so, with my main cause being that there are so many other wonderful words to choose from, why use one for everything? it merely makes you appear to have a low vocabulary and no consideration for other's feelings.

The whole point of it is that it IS immoral.

If cussing wasnt, then we would have to invent something else that is, just for tha sake of serving the purpose of cussing when you want to do something immoral to add that much more expression to what you are saying.

I mean, think of the alternatives, if you really wanted to stress a point and cussing (no matter what words) did the trick, would you have to stamp on the other person's toe, or clip them on the ear?

Keep cussing as wrong and immoral instead of hip and cool, even if its so we dont have to endure something worse

Yes cursing is immoral it dirties up your mind. And moves you spiritually and physically away from all that you love as well as all that loves you. Would you feel comfortable speaking to an older person in that way? How about the oldest being in the universe?

I don't think that cursing is amoral. I think there are worse things out there than cursing. I tend to respect other people when I'm in a public place, but in general I curse like a motherf***ker. But only when it's appropriate. Some people curse just to curse. But cursing to emphasize your point is more appropriate than saying f**k ever two syllables.

I have a problem when children curse, but again, I think there are worse things they could be doing.

I don't think it's wrong. I just think it's silly. People use curse words out of context all the time just to say them. Why? We have a whole dictionary full of words with actual meanings to use. Why not use a variety? Intelligent people use intelligent words.

As far as I am concerned the reason things are right or wrong is only because God says they are wrong. All other arguments are insignificant. Cursing using the Name og God is one of the worse sins, so much so that God gave particlar warning against it in Exodus 20 in the 10 commantments -7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain." The punishment for doing so in the Old Testament was immediate death. As far as cursing without the name of God James, the brother of Jesus said James 5:12 "But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment."
