Yes and no... I would rather vote for a dress code... but uniforms are sometimes a good way to enforce the dress code.
However, being there, having done that I would say no to uniforms, cuz it robs you of free expression... You become a number, not a person, and become a mass not an individual... Plus... it's hard to find the same thing for everybody in USA.

Yes but all uniforms should be bought from the same place , when i was at school my entire uniform cost about £15 yet most of the other kids were wearing £200 worth . the purpose of uniform is to make all kids appear equal . obviously it didn't work for me and i would have felt far more comfortable in my scruffs but the principal is good providing it is strict .

Yes

Why?
1. School uniforms would save parents money.

2. School uniforms would save parents time. Kids in the morning would not have to make up their minds on what to wear.

3. Kids who's parents would not or could not buy them the newest fad, would not be embarrassed or harassed because of their cloths.

4. Kids social standing would be based more on individual character and less their economic status.

5. Some kids use baggy cloths to hid weapons and drugs.

6. Uniforms make it easy to identify kids who belong in the school and those that don't.

Yea sure there's pros & con's but the pros far more out-weigh the cons...

I think school uniforms are great from the perspective that they eliminate that horrible stress about what to wear, and whether you can afford the same fashion designs as the other students, etc.

But, for many, it means two entirely different wardrobes - one for school and one that students wear elsewhere.

Maybe a happy medium is in order, school uniforms with a casual Friday, perhaps?

Yes, I am so for uniforms for the following reasons:

1. it is less costly for parents
2. there is less conflict over clothes and stealing
3. gangs can't wear insignia
4. mean girls can't tease
5. it's school not a club, hoochie gear stays
home
6. Less fighting because your mom will kill you
if you mess up your uniform

And the biggest reason...

7. kids all pretty much wear the same thing as
their friends no matter how "individual" they
think they are.

Have you been to that mall?

Jeans white t-shirt, jeans white t-shirt, jeans white t-shirt. Oh, wait here come the goth kids....black pants punk band t-shirt, black pants punk band t-shirt, black pants punk band t-shirt. Then there are the Gap girls, the American Eagle group, the soccer boys, the skaters, the....it goes on and on.

Uniforms the only way to go.

Arguments for uniforms: They're good for poor families, and poor kids won't have to compete with classmates who are made of money. As for that "self expression" argument, that's nonsense. What's hot or not is dictated entirely by the fasion industry. That's what the majority of kids follow: What's cool, not because they're expressing themselves.

Arguments against uniforms: Doesn't teach kids anything about fashion sense. Most guys who wore uniforms at school have to learn the hard way about fashion dos and don'ts

Maybe students should be allowed free dress *ONLY* if it's formal clothing like slacks, long sleeved shirts, ties, blouses, etc.

OK as I have two children that schooled for the most part in England where school uniform was required, then moving over to the USA for a couple of years of high school, in their opinion having a uniform was FAR better........reasons.............you could just wear your nice stuff as going out stuff and not as is normal over here as a fashion contest each and every day.

IMO as a school teacher when in the UK to be honest when I asked about uniforms I was told it was so that children would learn to conform etc and to abide by minor rules.....had an almost daily battle with one child about not wearing his school shoes..............when I asked him just what he like to do when he left school....he told me he wanted to join the army............Was lost for a reply when I said that he would HAVE to wear the boots / army issue stuff at ALL times when on duty and could not trot out the excuse of my feet hurt as they would throw him out of the army period..................

Some of the rules are petty but then if they don't learn it whilst at school when exactly WILL they learn it.................how to dress for an interview etc...what sort of dress is right for each occasion.......this I feel all stems from having a bit of school pride and following the rules.
