I see Middle Eastern people wear sandals everywhere, even in cooler places like the mall. Do they wear sandals because it's religious?

I think it's more that regular shoes are too expensive for the average Middle Easterner, and that being it's so hot there, it's better to wear sandals to prevent Athlete's foot disease.

No, it's just practical to wear sandals when you pray. Because Muslims will take ablution (wash the face, hands, feet) 5 times a day. So you want to wear something practical.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Indians are known to wear sandals as well...?...And not all Middle Easterners have the same religion, I for one am Christian, yes Christian, one of the group of people to accept Jesus. Don't be so ignorant. :)

No, they cannot afford Nikes. Besides, closed toed shoes are less sanitary, especially in the heat.

WTF ??!! I'm middle eastern and I don't think I've ever worn a sandal ! Plus, no bragging, I have 2 nikes, so apparently, we can afford them !
