Technically it's First Gold by Badger Brewery, which won Double Gold at the Brewing Industry International Awards last year and which is a damn nice ale (tastes a bit like how i imagine Christmas would taste if it were an ale)
However, I would say TANGLEFOOT also by Badger Brewery is better. It's slightly dry but heart-warmingly rich. Mmmmm I can taste it now...
Oh and this ale won Best Beer in the World in the B.I.I Awards in 1987. And although that was quite a while ago it doesn't make it any less true...

Or if you're after something a bit different (also from Badger Brewery - god I love that company) is GOLDEN GLORY. And no I don't mean the debauched sexual act of... well I won't go into details if you don't already know.
It's kind of fruity in a hoppy way whilst still being quite bitter and satisfyingly thirst-quenching - and I've never tasted anything quite like it since. A very fun ale!

I must agree with two of the other answers. I love my real ales and here in Devon we have loads.
but Adnams Broadside is poss. my favourite all time drinking beer.
In winter you can't beat a good pint of Port Stout from O'hanlons
My next best is O'hanlons Yellow hammer a cracking summer pint.
You should try them!

As a CAMRA member (aka anorak), I have tasted a few hundred ales and my vote would go to Hop Back Summer Lightning. It is, however, a very subjective subject. If readers dont drink real ale, I urge you to experiment, there are thousands available and you will find some you like.

My gosh,there are hundreds of real ales all over this country!!Marstons pedigree is a firm favourite-as are many others from the Burton brewery area-theakstones old peculiar,fullers esb,Young's from the ram brewery...this could go on alnight!!Anyway,real ale has been proved to be beneficial to the health-especially the digestive system(makes you "go"!!)so that sits fine by me!

You will have to try the coconut feney and the cashu feney from goa they home disteled by very rich portuges disteleries,and its like fire water ask anyone who's been to goa on a holiday they'll tell you bout it its better than all the beer you get here.

apple ale, netle ale, ellderberry ale but they are hard to find netle ale
is very nice, you might be able to get hold of ellderberry ale, if you live in England You could get hold of all 3,
