One of the problems with 12-step programs is to accept a higher power. Is there an 11-step program I can join?

I attend a 12 step program and have for years. As a matter of fact, I attended mass yesterday with a friend of mine: I usually attend a Protestant church in which I am a member. Anyway, I enjoyed the rituals of the service and even contemplated attending some class they offer to learn more about Catholicism. However, truth be known, I'm more likely just to reside in complacency and continue to attend where i already go.

Catholicism is no worse than any of the other religions. It's just a lot older than most and more misunderstood.

This past weekend a Rabbi was arrested for soliciting a young boy on the Internet and arranging a meeting. He was in fact "talking" to an undercover officer.....no religion is immune.

I'm a non-believer so I have no loyalty to any religion....I'm just a person not blinded by the media.

The perfect children of our family have moved to Lutheran and the new yuppie religions. We black sheep believe in bringing the Church back to life. http://www.actsmissions.org/
It doesn't matter which church you go to or not go to...it's about being of service to one another and behaving in a Christ like manner to set an example of Christianity not preaching about it and telling others how they should be living or thinking.
You don't have to be a Catholic to attend an ACTS Retreat. I hope you will go someday and then you can take it or leave it. Whatever you do....Let Your Light Shine!

Recovered catholic here. When I finally noticed that I'm an atheist (it only took about thirty-five years), I treated myself to my own personal four-step program:

1) I poured a finger of single malt whiskey into a glass.
2) I poured in a second finger.
3) I poured in a third finger.
4) I drank it.

I highly recommend it.

I was raised Catholic. While I'm not one anymore, I still love that the virgin Mary and the worship of Saints irks so many Christians. Also, they believe in evolution so good for them.

Better than some other denomintations out there but still, just not for me.

i am. i became addicted from watching my parents do it. at first it was recreational but as i went on i began using more heavily. i went to a school where everyone used...even the teachers (private school)

eventually it got full blown and i was confirmed (apparentl a step in the religion thats totally metaphorical, kinda like first communion) after confirmation i just kept using and using until eventually i quit cold turkey.

the pains in my stomache were the worsed, my body, used to the addictive scripture and "god did it" responses to questions i didnt know. eventually one day after many sundays in my bed in a codl sweat and pain i awoke refreshed! while i was asleep logic and reasoning entered my mind, i saw things in a new light!

ive been clean for 10 years.

Recovering from being Catholic, or recovering into becoming a catholic?

Yes. Too much pedophilia in the church, and too many sexist old men running it. Now I don't follow any organized religion. I pray and believe in God, yet I won't ever go into a church again.
