Background - My lower back has been hurting for a little over a week. I went to the doctor to get it checked out, fearing it might be another kidney stone (yeah, I’ve already passed one of those and the pain felt suspiciously familiar). The good news is, I haven’t got a kidney stone. The bad news is that the pain has radiated down into my leg.

Initial searches suggest I’ve either pinched or aggrevated a nerve somehow. Anyway, the doctor’s assistant gave me a call saying the doc wants me to wait a while and call back if it’s still bugging me, but she didn’t know what time frame “a while” meant.

Any clues? Or educated guesses? 2 weeks? 4 weeks?

Low back pain usually limits itself but could take months. Lately, health care is all about reducing pain; so honestly, I would only wait about a week and call back. You shouldn't be in pain and if it is a disc pressing on a nerve (which with radiating pain in the sciatic distribution, it sounds like it) you don't want to wait too long to have an MRI to rule it out (or in). Good luck and go to PT if need be before exploring anything too drastic if that is the case.

I'd say 2 weeks is plenty. Are you taking any anti-inflammatories like Advil?
