It depends on the girl. I've given poetry to many different ladies; some were essentially friends others were love interests. Most of the women that I've given poetry to responded favourably or even "gushing" but the one that got away, she had a different attitude towards my poetry.
I understand why, she saw the world differently than most other women that I knew but it hurt to have the poems be unappreciated (essentially) when I loved her so much...
Take a chance, you never know what might result from giving a girl poetry but be sincere of course and originality never hurts.

I've seduced many a woman by reciting poetry of my own composition to them. I've written poems in English, French, Welsh, Japanese ... even Klingon.
In all cases, it isn't the poem. It's the fact that it's original, and the reading out loud, and the voice, and the reader, and the romance of the moment.
And the ability to know if the woman you're with is the type to appreciate good poetry, of course ...

I got poetry on Valentine's Day from a friend of mine and it made me feel wonderful. I think if the poem is original and real, then it should make any girl feel great

If she's already interested in you, it's definitely a good idea. I would love it. Don't make it too far out though. I mean to make it too long of a poem or when she reads it she will be thinking about the meaning of the poem and not the..(You giving it to just her and only her). Make sure she knows it is from you to her before she reads it and not you asking for her opinion. This way your feelings won't get hurt if she misunderstands. She will love it if she already likes you and she will keep the poem in her pocket or purse.

Personally... i'd love it! Especially if it was a poem the guy had written himself. But i'd have to be able to read it in private, not in front of the guy, and know who it was from :o)
Good luck sweetie, if you're considering doing this for someone, let me be the first to say... she's a lucky girl :o)

AWWWWW I think it's cute/romantic. It really depends on what type of girl your going to give it to. Some girls like aggressive boys, and som girls like romantics. But I think all girls would like to have someone write them a poem or a nice love letter. Take this from me don't give it to her in front of her friends, girls these days get jealous too easily.

I received the most beautiful, touching, romantic poem that described our date, how he felt about it, and his feelings for me.
I was shocked + overwhelmed and it made me cry.
I didn't realize until that moment that he was so sweet and sensitive.
I will NEVER forget it and will treasure it always.

If she likes you too . .... go for it because it shows the senstive side. But if you and her are not close to being on the same page then don't because it may scare her away. Good luck.
