Is having a drink (being a shot with diet coke or on the rocks) every night bad for you?

What about two?

Sometimes afterwork, there's nothing like a rum and coke to relax you. I am just worried about the side effects this might have.

Happy Apple: congrats on your success. i wish you luck.

I've heard the drink a day, but doesn't that pertain to red wine and not liquor?

a drink a day... keeps the heart doctor away.

Research suggest that alcohol--in moderation--is good for the heart. If you are an alcoholic, have liver problems, have an allergy to alcohol, or take medications that don't mix with alcohol, then you should not drink at all.

One drink a day for women, two drinks a day for men. (so unfair)

ADD: Studies suggest that red wine has extra benefits, however, according to my college health textbook, a SERVING of hard liquor (1.5 ounces) is just as healthy as any other serving of alcohol.

I have to agree with the popular consensus. A drink or 2 is generally good for the heart physically. Getting drunk on occasion is a little embarrassing, Not exactly a sin. But when the 1 or 2 turns into 18 - 20 a night just to get you to sleep that IS real trouble. The thing is, some people will try to tell you that alcohol consumption in any amount is evil. They don't know s h i t! Others can actually have 1 or 2 a night , every night for that matter and it becomes part of their daily diet ( i e with dinner or evening conversation) Obviously we're not including the occasional 'Friday or Saturday night blowout' here. Somewhere between 1 or 2 a night and 18-20 a night is a LOT of Grey area. Weight , genetics, upbringing, age , and experience with alcohol ALL play a part in the scale. I try to use this method: when I can't remember the last night I didn't have a drink after work, it's time to stop for a few days. Helps me be real with myself because I d a m n sure don't want to end up on the ugly side of life.

JUst be careful to consume in moderation. That's how I was. Next thing I knew I was drinking up to 18 beers a night. Not good. I just quit drinking though. It's been 7 days, working on 8.

All the studies I have read show that 1-2 drinks a day is beneficial to your health.

I have read many articles that show that one drink a day is good for you. I guess it just comes down to the point where you have to have that drink in order to function that makes it a problem.

good for da heart, a medium sized peg that is!! also apparently not as good when consumed on an empty stomach. Moderate alcohol consumption is good, the problem starts when you use it to drown away tiredness or hypertension, anger and the like...

It's best to stick with clear liguids, try Gin and sprite with a lime slice. Personal favorite.

I plan to have a few beers tonight. I think as long as it is not a "get sloshed" event things are good.
