I have owned several pitbulls. First off, Ive worked in veterinary for three years, and I would trust a pitbull before a cocker spaniel or a dalmation when it comes to biting. I have had to have one of my pitbulls put down after a couple of times going after my friend's small children, then he killed and ate one my cats. Of course having other pitbulls that were sweet as can be, I can attribute this to either his bloodline or just dispostion. And people see the news stories about pitbull attacks because so many people breed dogs that shouldn't be bred, and these puppies that may be pre-determined to have bad attitudes are given to people with no knowledge of the breed or no concept of their responsiblilty when it comes to taking care of this breed.

There is no smoke without Fire!
The pit bull will always be hounded because of the temperament of some of the dogs owners. You know as well as I do that there are certain type of owners who want there dogs to be the hardest/meanest around. They want there dog to be able to beat up any other dog/person. They do not socialize the dog well and in fact do everything possible to create a ill tempered dog. The pit bull is a pit dog. It is easy to get this dog in fight mode and because of this the dog is prone to attacking and when it does with savage results. No the dog is not to blame but the owners will not change and because of this the dog is a danger to society. They have and will continue to attack. I am sorry for the dog but we have to face facts...............they are savage. The owners should be sent to jail for a long time if an attack happens, but guess what they don't. Sorry if this offends anyone but I am trying to explain that the dog is not to blame the owners are (in most cases) There are other good guard dogs/pets. Get a mastiff/Akita/German shepherd..............thanks.

Had a pit...she was a GREAT dog...only problem was was that I had horses too. Everytime the horses would start to run...my dog would chase them down and latch onto their neck. Unfortunately the only thing that would make her let go was a 2x4 to the head. I know it sounds cruel but she couldve seriously injured my horses.
The pits are labeled as such because of the extent of damage they can do IF they do happen to bite. This breed of dog is not for everyone. It is not a breed I would trust around children or people they are not familiar with. Sorry ...but thats just the way it is.
I totally agree with Tom ^^ They are bred for fighting. 'Nuff said.

All dogs can be vicious, all dogs can be killers, all dogs can attack humans and cause serious wounds. its all in the owners training and control over their companion. my mother had a chihuahua that could tell if you didnt like dogs and actually had a friend of mine cowering on the couch begging for the dog to go away. of course my friend was a 6'5" 280 lb football defensive back that wasnt afraid of much except dogs. ive also witnessed the same dog get nipped by a german sheppard for trying to get frisky. pits have been used in alot of dog fights over the last 20 or so years as they do have a tendancy to not let go once they have something in their mouth (not actually locking their jaw) which is what the people running the dog fights want since it causes more blood loss and more horrendous wounds. if more people would raise their pits to be the gentle dogs they can be not training them to attack anyone that comes into the yard and more importantly to stomp out the illegal dog fights using them then they wouldnt have a bad rap.

Can sure tell who is a Pit owner and who isn't ;)
To begine with there are only two catagories of dogs on this planet;
those that bite
&
those that haven't yet
That said one needs to look at what were the intended reasons for developing a breed in the first place, and point blank Pits were developed to fight!! All the arguing and sentimental BS will never change that. When a person understands that and trains and socializes a Pit properly, they will grow up to be wonderful pets (but the underlying trate is still there)

Ah, that is very true. There is no such thing as a dog "locking its jaw". Look, I am a cat person, I also try not to prejudge in every people aspect of my life, but I think that pitbulls arent attractive, and they do have small little heads, which leads me to believe they have tiny brains. The press DOES jump on stories to get airtime, weather its airplane crashes, babies falling out of windows, or any kind of dog attack.. That makes it appear that there are more of these accidents happening, when in reality, they've always happened, and always will. i'm sorry you don't feel like your dog isnt getting a fair shake.

It is all about education! And there are a lot of people out there that are not educated! I have been around plenty of other dogs that everyone claims to be non aggressive, ie. Golden Retrievers, and have come across a few that are not very sociable and very aggressive. I have actually been bitten by a Jack Russell as well as a friends son was severely bitten by one. But yet, I have seen some very good and sociable Jack Russells and Golden Retrievers. It is all in the breeding and how the dog is raised.

some people are just ignorant its not the dogs its the owners. i look at it like this dogs are like children if you raise it to be good it will but if you raise it to be mean then thats what happens. animals really dont have the concept of being evil. they just know how to love and protect what they love. people need to stop blaming the dogs and put the blame where it belongs. some people shouldn't have animals. they see this poor thing as a piece of property not a living breathing creature who has feelings. they see us as their parents not their owners. and like any child they just want to please their parents. a Chihuahua can be more vicious then a pit bull they are very jealous little dogs lol. i have had a Rot. a pit bull and Chihuahuas . and every kind of mix breed dog you can think of. my Rot. was a big baby she was scared of her own shadow. and my pit samone had a little kitten she always carried around till the cat got to fat and heavy lol

You are on the track. Any dog can be vicious, even a poodle, if they are trained to be. Pits definitely have a bad rap. I have owned them and they are good dogs. I do believe that they may be a little more disposed to viciousness because of breeding, however. But, again, it has more to do with how they are raised.

I completely agree. Pits are the sweetest dogs. It's the horrible people who train them to be fighters who are the actual monsters.
