My husband just made Navy Chief and he is getting pinned on Sept 16th, but he is out to sea. I wanted to be able to pin him, but there is noway I get to. I just wondered who pins you when your spouse can't? Or did you get to pin your spouse?

I am so sorry you don't get to be there for the BIG event. I know this is a big deal in an enlisted mans career. You should be so proud of your husband. I know when my brother in law made chief awhile back his wife and kids got to pin him. But, the other guy who had no family there was pinned by his sponsor. Maybe when he get home you can re~pin him. I know it not the same, but you can pretend.

Oh my goodness, my son just made Navy Chief and is being pinned in Jacksonville this Friday, the 15th. We are traveling there to be at the pinning ceremony and are so proud of him. He has a wife and two kids and is on shore duty presently but has been out to sea many times. I imagine his wife, his Master Chief or Commanders will pin him. I'm really unsure.

I'm so sorry to hear you will miss the pinning ceremony. Perhaps a friend of his can video it for you? Take care and I hope your husband is home to you all very soon. :)

First, congratulations to your husband for making Chief! Very exciting!
My husband made Chief in 1996, a year before we met, and he had his Commanding Officer pin him. I think that's usually the way they do it if they don't have a loved one pinning them. I think they ask their CO or XO, somebody within the Command that they like and have respect for.
I'm sorry you're going to miss his pinning ceremony. Make sure they take a lot of pictures!!!

When deployed, most chiefs are pinned by their sponsor. The chief that coaches him through initiation. Congratulations to your husband.

He can ask anyone he likes to Pin him. Could be a fellow Chief, could be his DIVO or DEPT Head. Could be the CO.
