Marijuana is healthier and safer than alcohol. i USED to smoke weed but ive been clean for a month now and do physically feel alot better. im not saying either is good. both substances affect you in completely different ways. i believe that the only reason our gov't doesnt make marijuana legal is because they cannot tax it b/c we can simply grow it in our backyard, yet there are ways to create alcohol...what are yalls opinions?

Interesting...I would say that the government should make marijuana legal. I don't think it's healthy or anything, but to me it doesn't make sense that alcohol is legal while marijuana isn't. Maybe if marijuana were legal, the government would pay more attention to problems like teens using it and start more programs to educate kids about it. I've never done it personally, but I was in a guy's house when he started smoking weed, and he went beserk--it scared me half to death. I had no idea it affected a person so much. I know more about the effects of alcohol on a person than I do weed, and I've barely been around people who drink, either. So I think that says something about how much we're really educated about the effects of drugs. It's like people tend to lump them all into one category, when they're each different and have different dangers. I mean, I'm a psych major, so I've studied the effects of drugs, but I was still shocked when that guy wigged out on me.
I wonder if legalizing marijuana would make it safer in that the government could better keep an eye on what's in the stuff people buy. If it went full-scale/commercialized, like alcohol, then it would be easier to regulate, and that would be a plus.

Some people protest that if marijuana were legal, then people would be more likely to think that it's "okay" to do it. But I'm not sure I agree. Practically everyone on my college campus does it anyway; it's not much less common than alcohol.

I agree it is safer although it does impair your judgment as does alcohol. As to your idea about why it isn't legal I think you are also pretty close to the reason because it would be hard to tax because it can be grown at home. Also it is hard to do a road side test, in Australia and a few other countries they do a tongue scraping if they suspect you are high which is suppose to show the thc content.

Mary-jane has a wide variety of chemicals, including fertilizers and pesticides, THE SAME AS TOBACCO, of which is made WORSE because you burn it and breath in the smoke, the same AS TOBACCO. Chemically, marijuana is stronger than tobacco, so the chemicals are worse in your body. That is why the government does not allow it.

Alcohol is not as bad. But still bad. At least they dilute it with water before you drink it.

I don't believe in using any drug...alcohol or other... because it affects the mind. I think natural highs are more fulfilling and last longer. I also think that people need to stop living in a "instant gratification" mode. Do things to your body and in you life that will be positive and useful.

Okay, guys.....gimme your thumbs down....i know it's commin.....but she asked for opinions and that's what I gave 'er.

Drugs are bad. And if they wanted to they would grow it and tax it, just like cigs.
