yes that is the only way you will know that you are ovulating

I suppose that a girl could get pregnant the first time she ovulates, which means she would not have a period.

you dont have to have your period to have a baby. If you are trying to get pregnant just keep doing it every other day and hopefully you will get pregnant. Both of my pregnancies were not when i had my period. i concieved 3 week after my period. They were planned pregnancies and not an opps!

No you don't ...... if you have s*e*x 14 days before your very first period you can get pregnant from the first ovulation which would occure before the first period.
