fighting and the bird that was originally there bloats up and his feathers start twitching. I don't know anything about birds, but my gut says this is not good. Could anyone give me some feedback as I feel bad for this bird. My sense is that the new bird is dominating and scaring the grieving vulnerable one. I want to tell my friend what I am sensing, but I thought it best to get some back-up info from those in the know first. Thanks!

They should not have been thrust in the same cage so soon - they shoulhdave had side by side cages and let the two get used to one another, but sometimes that is impossible. The problem will go away (normally) within a few days as they get to know each other.

Birds are very territorial. The new guy wants all the space available and keets will kill another keet. I have seen the results. Best to separate them. Or give the new bird away and get a hen.

I've had quite a few keets and eventually all got along beautifully--no bloodshed. But I'd keep them in separate but close together cages first for a few days. You can just get an inexpensive second cage (might come in handy again anyway) In every instance my birds' curiosity was aroused and when eventually all were together in one cage they were fine. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I've had no problems with 6 keets.
