The officer pays his own way and goes out of respect, not for a paycheck. We have to take vacation days or use personal time to do so. It is very rare for a department to pay officers to attend a funeral unless the department is sending you as an official Honor Guard. Most departments limit the sending of an Honor Guard to their local area (usually in the same state only).

Generally, officers pay their own way to attend a fellow officer's funeral, and despite what honeyinthelexus said, attending funerals is NOT a fringe benefit.

I can not say for Canada. But in the US the officers take personal time off ( use sick or vacation days) and travel normally at thier own expense. Some departmetns will allow use of a department van.
So no police are not paid for things like this, They care enough for fellow officers to do this on thier own.
