Linen is woven from flax. Cotton is the name of a plant as well as the name of the fabric woven from its fibers.

As far as the fabric goes, cotton can be found in the form of knits (like a t-shirt or sweater), or a stiffer weave (like a blouse). Linen is pretty much just used for woven fabric. The natural flax (tan) color is abundant, but it is also dyed into other colors. The identifying characteristic is the texture (kind of uneven) and it's penchant for wrinkling. Most good linen requires dry cleaning, where cotton does not. Linen is considered a summer fabric because of the light weight. Cotton, of course, is year-round, depending on the weave.

whereas Cotton is from that plant that you grow in the South.. countries in Africa, etc.. they take that cotton that is produced... and it is spun. and then clothing is made from it.

Cotton is cotton. It grows in fields and is made into cotton fiber. Linen is usually made from some other type of fiber.
