I've got a champion dog show this Friday, and I would be extremely greatful for any tips, especiallly from experienced people. I have a 18 month bull terrier, and it's mine and her's first champ show. Thanks.

Well for you, wear something comfortable (not thongs or stilleto's) and stick to neutral colours so not to outshine the dog! Don't fuss too much over the coat as not a great deal to groom. Have a couple of ready made gin and tonics (for you and doggy!)and remain calm so not to pass on nervous tension. Keep smiling as you are running past the judges! So get out there girl and come back with the best in show trophy. (Can be filled up with more G and T's ! ) Good Luck. Ps i used to show my setter a few years ago.

I am assuming that you have already taught the dog how to be stacked, how to gait and how to free stack when you stop in front of the judge.
Be sure he is absolutely immaculately clean.... even the inside of his ears. Nails should be well trimmed too. Clean his teeth with a gauze bad for extra brightness.
Be sure you are perfectly dressed as well. And be sure you do not wear the same color as the dog is because you will just blend into one big blob. I hate it when people do that! It ruins the outline of the dog!
Try not to be nervous. The tension will travel from you... right through the lead.... into the dog.

Practice on getting your dog to stack at it's best , practice gating your dog so she shows her movement to it's best advantage,wear comfortable shoes, wear a skirt or nice pants if a girl or if a boy nice dress pants and a nice button shirt or polo shirt. Make sure if you have long hair it is pulled back so it doesn't fly in your face. Make sure you and your dog are very neat and clean. If you can get the book SHOW ME!! A Dog Show Primer by D. Caroline Coile it's an invaluable guide for peopel wanting to show.

Firstly, good luck with your show. Try to remain as calm as possible, the dog will sense your nervousness. Practice walking and running with the dog at home and maybe contact your local breed club for some more in depth advice. Have a little bag of cooked diced liver with you that you can pass to the dog while showing as a treat, it also keeps them in a bit closer to you.
The best advice I can give is to enjoy it. My partner used to show our dogs and thoroughly enjoyed doing so, even at Crufts!

Wear really comfortable shoes, a nice outfit in a color that contrasts to your dog, have lots of bait in your pocket, give yourself plenty of time to get ready, make sure your girl goes to the ex pen before she's due in the ring, locate your ring ahead of time and watch your judge for a few minutes to see how he runs his ring (where he wants dogs to line up, what pattern he has you run, etc.).
And above all, relax, meet people and have a really good time!

There are some very good yahoo groups that you could join. Including one called show-me, run by the author of the same book. You could get some hints there, and you have some good ones from here already.
