I prefer mayo. Only certain areas of the country even put butter on sandwiches. Talk about extra calories; that's why I don't use mayo now unless it's fat free. Here on the east coast of Virginia we never prepared sandwiches that way, but an aunt from the Midwest put it on one of my sandwiches when I was a kid and I spit it out. She thought everyone put it on theirs.

For me, it all depends on what is on the sandwich. I don't think I'll be putting butter on, say, a ham and swiss cheese sandwich. On the other hand, I don't think I'll be putting Mayo on a Grilled Cheese anytime soon.
