I have a heart shaped face and medium brown hair that is to my middle back and has a one year old perm. I have a hair appointment friday to get my hair cut and colored. And I have NO idea what I want, or what would look good on me. Is it ok to walk into the salon and tell the stylist to do whatever they feel is stylish and cute?

Definatly; a good salon stylist will work with you and show you and suggest appropriate stlyes that best suit your face and color.

Alot of salons carry magazines and stlye books so you can browse through too. Dont feel embarassed to take in pictures of cuts or colors that you like. Dont make the results unrealistic they arent going to look exactly the same but that way you can help him/her better understand your stlye and what you are looking for in a good haircut. IF you go in there and the stylist doesnt seem interested or doesnt seem helpful in understanding what look you are tryinh to achiveve then go somewhere else. They arent worth your $$ or time. A real stlyist cares what you will look like and should tell you if the cut you are thinking about would look bad or not!

Depends on the stylist,... How much are you paying for the style & cut?

If you're paying quite a lot, & the Stylist has been in the business for a while (was she/he recommended by friends or co-workers?) then I guess it is okay, to just let the stylist have a free attitude at giving your something creative.

Now if the stylist has only been syling for about a year, I would not trust this person. You should try to get someone that has been in the business for at least four years. One year Virgins can be over enthusiastic and can lose control of trying too hard to be creative.
I learned that the hard way, a few times.

Good luck & cheers!!!

yes... it's ok but please keep these things in mind :)

let your stylist know if you are only willing to spend a limited amount of money... she may want to cut it all off, chemically straighten it, or do all kinds of expensive things to it just because you told her to do whatever...
also let her know what your regular styling regimen is... if you are just a wash and wear kind of girl you won't want her doing some cut and style to you where you have to get up and work with it for an hour or two just to make it look halfway decent :) and last but not least... no tears in the end if you don't like what she did! that's the worst for a stylist when people come in and say "i have no ideas, just do something new and fun" and then they end up walking out of the salon after spending lots of money on something they hate with tears in their eyes, more or less hating the stylist that did this to them... and then never coming back and telling all their friends about their horrible experience at the salon they had went to... it hurts the stylist salon and clientele... please keep this in mind. good luck on friday! i hope this helps you :)

Don't take this the wrong way, but unless you are a grandmother, please ditch the perm. Natural is always better. Shoulder length hair and a natural color brown is always in style. I'd go in with SOME idea... although I have told my stylist who I knew and trusted (and was world-known and quite expensive) to "do whatever" one time and it was awesome... but be sure you really mean that. I'd go in with pictures of some idea and at least some standards - like no shorter than my chin, only dark colors, no crazy highlights, layers but no bangs..

ABSOLUTELY! They should have some ideas as to what will look best on you. If they don't...you need to find a new stylist. You should however have your own set of boundries....colors you personally don't like, if you prefer bangs/no bangs, lengths you prefer, etc. Always give them boundries or else you could end up with anything! Also, a tip I've been given in the past is to look at fashion magazines instead of "hair" magazines. The fashion magazines give a representation of what is "in" now.

I've tried this and they never do, they will push me into telling them what I want. Hopefully your stylist will be confident enough to listen to you and have at your hair. Tell her you want something sylish and flattering for your face shape, skin tone, eye color, etc. Good Luck.

i'd choose for a lighter hair colour by using fact in case you pass darker it relatively is going to easily make you look much extra diminished. As for the size, your hair sounds captivating! i'd perhaps shrink some inches and layer it yet i does no longer shrink it up on your shoulders, long hair is so noticeably!

If you trust your stylist and she knows what she's doing, then it seems like a pretty good idea.
