I was chatting with a male friend of mine last night (about what, I can't remember) when all of sudden, out of no where, he says, "you need to find someone highly intelligent". I asked if he didn't understand something I'd said and he said, "No, I was just making an observation".

But it got me to thinking...I have been more or less single for 4 years now and have dated a number of men, but the few that I have formed lasting, meaningful relationships with (good friendships only thus far) are the ones that can keep up with me intellectually.

I'm not a genius by any means (I think my last IQ test said 126) but I do tend to get bored easily, with men and life in general.

Should I start looking for mates in places that "smart people" hang out? And if so, where might that be in "small town USA"?

I find that it's important to find someone who is close to your intellectual equal, otherwise you will become bored quickly. At least, that's been my experience. If not, when you try to have a deep, meaningful conversation, it just doesn't happen. If you want to find "smart people" try school. You'll find professors and students there.

I think that after a while, women do find the cowboy type a little prosaic, and the wimpy "yes dear" even less of a companion. If you think of the longterm HAPPY couples you know, they challenge each other mentally. These are the people that WANT to talk every day, that like to discuss matters between themselves, couples that talk about issues and politics.

You can't do that with someone who is on a different intelligence level than yourself.

It's worth a shot. If the good lasting relationships come from guys that are on an intelligent level, then go with those guys.

It depends.

Smart people would give you more meaningful relations. However, dumb people are easier to control and you could just take him wherever you want.

Dumb people is easier to meet, so keep it as a last resource.
