fart

2006-09-11 09:50:14 · answer #1 · answered by the1princessh 3 · 6 0

I don't like it. Sometimes at the video store the person behind me follows me up to the til instead of waiting at the line to be called to the next available cashier and I can feel their presence as if they are breathing down my neck. If I put my elbow back I would hit them for sure. So I turn around and give them a look that tries to convey politely that they have invaded my personal space and sometimes they step off and other times the cashier tells them to please return to the line and then there are times when I just get my stuff paid for and split but not before I give the evil eye to the perpetrator. I really hate that feeling of a stranger three inches from your back.

Since I'm usually standing in lines with one of my kids, I usually will pull the kid closer to me (and further away from oxygen thief) and explain in a loud voice about how some people have no respect for other peoples' personal space.
That typically gets the message across!

I get "people phobic" when I'm in large crowds or in lines with lots of people. I like my personal space and I don't want anyone in it. When the "space invaders" crowd me, I move away from them and then try to take up as much space as possible, so they can't stand too close. Coughing loudly without covering your mouth works too.

I usually just try to move away from them. If they just keep moving closer, unless they're right on top of me, I'll tolerate it, even though I don't like it. If they're pushing into me a little, I'll make eye contact, and give them a very serious "excuse me" that sends the message to back off.

I usually step enough to the side so I'm not directly next to them. If they continue to push or get too close, I move again, turn around and glare at them. That usually gets the message across.

I usaully take a "half" step backwards, bump into them, then turn and say "Oh, I didn't realize how close you were to me." If it persiste, which it uasually doesn't, I then turn and ask them to not stand so close. What I find interesting is, that most of the time they are Orientals.

I try not to move up any further, if that is what they are trying to get me to do.
