because i was my hair almost every other day, but when i don't, it often gets oily and doesn't look good. I would like to wash it everyday but i've heard it makes your hair worse and more oily. Is this true?

I too like to wash my hair daily because it feels better and looks better but it really dries your hair out. If you can handle going without washing its better, I cant do it. If your hair feels oily ive heard you can dust your hair with powder to take away that oily look.....what kind of powder I have no idea though.....

It is best to wash your hair every other day if your a female. If you have any kind of chemically treated hair you should definatly be washing every other day or even every 2 days.

The more you wash your hair the more you strip essential oils out of the hair that no conditioner can replace. If you have excessivly greasy oily hair you should see a dermatologist and he/she will prescribe you medicated shampoo. But if your hair is normal then switch to every other day.

Also a good rule of thump is to alternate using a conditioner one night and then leaving it out the other and using a spray in or leave in conditioner. That way your hair doesnt become coated and start to feel weighed down by conditioner.

Try new styles that you can wear on the days that it wasnt washed. Putting your hair up in a cute style works best or smoothing it over to one side and wearing a tight pony is ideal.

THe girl above me is wrong. A clairifying shampoo is not good to use everyday. These types of shampoos strip the hair of everything. Color, moisture, everything. These are best to use once in a while. Like after swimming in a pool, beach, hottub, or if your hair has been feeling really weighed down. That means your shampoo.conditioner/styling aids have built up on your hair.

don't wash it every day! It dries it our and makes your scalp kick into high gear, and it starts making more oil deposits! Every other day is perfect! Make sure to switch your pillow case often, and wash your face b4 bed ALWAYS!

:) it takes time for your hair/scalp to get used to the change, but after 2 weeks, it'll be great! and hey that means on the off days, you can sleep a lil longer!

And if it looks a bit oily, just use a little baby powder!

Hair washing is the act of keeping hair clean by washing it with shampoo and water. In many industrialized countries, the hair is washed daily. Hair is often washed with specialized soaps called shampoos, and lost oils are replenished with hair conditioners. Shampoos are cleaning agents for scalp and hair shafts, if one has oily scalp a more detergent shampoo is needed.
It is not recommended to wash hair twice in succession, as often recommended by shampoo manufacturers. The first shampoo will wash your hair and the second will strip your hair of its nutrients. However, a long rinsing with water is a good habit, even if you are in a hurry; else, the hair will be dull and more sensitive to external irritants (pollution, etc).
Use cold water as a final rinse; it will make your hair shinier. The cold water closes the scales that the hair has on its surface, which open when washed with hot water. Moreover, if your scalp tends to be greasy, cold water prevents dilatation of sebaceous glands and moderate sebum production.
Use mild shampoos if you want to wash often. Do not use children's shampoos, which are not soft but less galling; they contain over-greasing agents that make the hair more loose.

Washing your hair everyday can actually make it drier! You should try sticking to washing it every other day, unless you have sweated a lot or something like that. Try to brush your hair as little as possible, as extensive brushing can damage your hair. If you do have oily hair, try using a clarifying shampoo when you do wash.

No, it doesn't make it worse. Just make sure you use shampoo and conditioner for oily hair. Also, avoid putting too much of styling products on your hair.

it keeps your hair from being oily but it also dries out your hair causing it to have split ends faster.
