My son was diagnosed with ADHD several years ago, and I was vehemently opposed to putting him on medication. However, in the end, I agreed to allow him to be medicated, due to the fact that the only way to tell if the diagnosis is correct is to actually put them on the medication, and see if things improve. In essence, there is no other means of determining if a diagnosis is correct. So, even though I thought that all the alphabet soup syndromes was quackery, and a means to enrich psychiatrists, I was shown to be wrong. Nathan is doing very well, and he is every inch a normal young man, successful in school, friend to many, and a leader in his social group. This was not the case beforehand.

ADHD didn't even exist until the pharmaceuticals came up with a "cure". Today, because of the pharms lobbying Washington, schools get federal funding based on the number of cases of ADHD having been diagnosed and treated in their districts. The more ADHD the more funding they receive. It is mostly political nonsense and empirical BS.
Now having said that, it is also a very possible senario that there is something wrong with your child that may need to be treated.

What are your childs symtoms? I have adult adhd and had it as a child. Does your child seem to be driven by a motor? Short attention span? classic signs of adhd. However people are so quik to say adhd. somtimes its just a teacher at school that gets fed up with your childs behavior they say have your kid evaulated get a few opinions we did. Read a really good book called driven to distraction it is very helpful when dealing with adhd. And do not i mean no way in hell put your kid on ridilin my 13 year old cousin hung himself the doctors say it was because of his state of mind from taking ridilin. so talk to your kids doctors i suggest a med called stratirra. My son is 10 and has adhd.

I'm not sure how they test for ADHD. But, as a parent, I would get as much information I could and most likely a second opinion. I would talk to the teacher too to see if there was a problem with maintaining concentration. I would read as much as I could about the subject in hand. If it was my child, I would be very educated in this subject. Including side effects from medications. What happens when they get older. Good luck!

The doctors do seem to diagnose ADHD a lot because it's too general. I too was diagnosed with it because I never focused on the teacher in class. The distraction part (Attention Deficit) is the part that's too general. Just about any kid isn't gonna wanna pay attention in class. The medicine is more for the hyperactivity part. If your kid is somewhat uncontrollable, you might want to try small doses of medication. Otherwise, it's probably just boredom making him/her lose interest in things. For more information try watching that one South Park episode (don't let your kid watch, it's TV-MA) about Ritalin. It was called Timmy 2000, Season 4 Episode 4.

Get a second opinion. If you still don't agree with the doctor, then don't medicate that child.
Just remember THEY are the doctors. I know some are quick to put active kids on meds so you do have to be careful. Make sure the child is tested thoroughly. If the doctor prescribes medication after only hearing about his symptoms from you, then the doctor hasn't done his or her job.

truthfully look at her weight loss application. If it relatively is overloaded with sugars, carbs, dyes and so on it extremely is affecting her. test a advantages device for sturdy habit (if she would have the ability to play ideal for ten minutes with yet another new child, you provide her a low-fee toy or a tickle consultation or something, working example). a sturdy time table for dozing and quiet time enables too... perhaps look into new child rub down and different comparable concepts (centred quiet tale time, coloring, and so on) to inspire her to be calmer and extra comfortable. Get a trampoline or a small pool, choose for walks, tire her out extra? As others have mentioned, however, she's way too youthful. I even have confidence in over analysis. you will merely have a great hyper new child! notwithstanding you do, do no longer shove her in an upload container and doubtlessly pass over out on springing up some great presents and know-how that incorporate capability. perhaps she's born to be a staggering soccer participant or dancer!

The only way to diagnose ADHD is by taking your child to a Neroligist that's what I had to do. Even his doc said that was the only true way to know.

Get more than one opinion. Inform yourself about the disorder. Examine both sides of the child's biological family for evidence of adhd as it runs in families.

kids need more attention period back to the old school chastisement society is trying to raise our kids on meds and they dont need that they need to stop all that time out and give them some time in and parenting need not be limited raising our kids, except to the point of abuse. they wonder why the child is disrespecting the parents and so many disobedient students in the class room and it is all because we have allowed the government to raise or have control of our families. then have the nerve to dose them up for a drugged up new generation. you better start being more strict with your child and stop druggin them up and allowing them to be so spoiled
