The obvious religiously-based answer to your question is that God has instructed us to obey his commands, which Christians regard as moral. God created us and the world/universe around us, so when he commands us to act/think in a certain way it is in our best interest in life.
This can also be applied secularly. A set of moral codes (moral being what society or persons regard as "good") is neccessary for social aptness and continuity. If a half of a particular society regarded a certain action as morally deplorable and the other half as a good thing to do, it clearly would cause conflict. By the way, I'm not saying that we have such a black and white moral code, but theoretically, if one existed, there would be "social harmony."

Morality exists because society demands it for the most part. We all must live peacefully in a community, and morality must exist for peace to prosper. If we all were selfish and resorted to theivery and adultery for example, then that would break the peace. That is the general reason to be moral. Of course those senses of morality disappear if one lives on a deserted island alone for the rest of his life.

Being moral makes things go a whole lot better for everyone, including you. Also, if you're religious, like me, then being moral is the right thing to do!

Do you mean philosophical reasons? Or survival reasons?
Morality ultimately benefits society and mankind. Self-destructive behavior and destructive behavior in general creates a harsher living environment. Morality increases better living conditions for all.

Different people have different reasons for it. For some it is simply a matter of treating other people with respect, in order to be treated with respect in return. For others it is more a matter of right and wrong dictated by their religious beliefs, or the commandments or laws laid down by God.

From a purely secular viewpoint, if you treat others well, they are more likely to treat you well. It's obvious enough to see why one would want to be treated well by others, it makes for an easier, happier life.
