I drive a 2001 Ford Taurus SE. I have two children and a husband and I am only 27. When I drive this car I feel like a granny driving such a big car. We still owe money on it so trading it in is not a option at this point. Is there any way to sport up this car so it looks better. The reason for this car is because it suit as at the time, with all the baby stuff you need to take going places plus this is what we quilfied for.

All the crap talkers whining "It's only a Taurus blah blah blah". So what about the Taurus SHO's? They were faster than the 5 series BMW's and Nissan Maximas when they came out. We won't even talk about how they would had a Mustang 5.0 it own ANUS in a quarter mile race.

Any car can be made to go faster, stop faster etc etc etc. So just park your mouth and learn, alright.

All you people basically sound like followers. Anybody "should" be able to make a Camaro fast and look good. The same thing is true for Hondas and Acuras. There millions of parts available for these cars. Oddly enough there are people that even manage to mess that up.

If I told you there was a thirteen year old factory pickup made by General Motors that was faster in the quarter mile than the Ferrari 308 you would just say I am an idiot and I don't know anything about cars, whatever.

First of all you can improve the performance and the looks of your Taurus. Let's start with the performance because there isn't that much to it.

If you have the V6 Duratec, then you have the same basic engine available in the SVT Contour. Stock it only has 200 horsepower. For all the "geniuses" out there that didn't know that is the same engine used in the touring car series against your beloved Hondas. The intake system has 12 runners as opposed to the 6 in typical 6 cylinder engines. That gives you good torque in low and high rpm situations. Short, fat runners for low rpm and long, skinny runners for high rpm.

Get a good, performance exhaust system. Many shops can do that for you. Next, get a cold-air intake and a performance chip or a tuning device that will let you recalibrate the way your tranny and fuel system, ignition works. That is about all you can do. Maybe you will get 240 horsepower from the engine. If you have the Vulcan engine don't bother just improve the body, wheels etc. You will know the difference because the Duratec usually has badges on either side of the car behind the front wheel of the car that says V6-DOHC.

Get high performance suspension parts, they are available. This will allow your car to handle better and can also be used to give you car a more aggressive stance. Pep Boys can order that kind of stuff for you and install it.

Most people have never seen a Taurus SHO Rage. It is a project car and it is absolutely beautiful. I know where to find a kit similar to it.

You can find custom wheels for anything these days.

You can get tint done anywhere.

If you don't already have one, you can get a power moonroof most anywhere.

You can get leather interior done at any good upolstery shop. Either that, or wait a couple of months and wait for the rainy season. Someone will wreck a Taurus/Sable with a good leather interior at which point you can buy it.

Sure, there are only a handful of 400 horsepower Taurus cars out there but that is not the point of this question. Nobody is talking about competing at NOPI with it, just hook it up a little.

Oh yeah, for all you Ford fans out there. The Taurus probably saved the company and was the highest selling car in its class from more than 10 years, outselling the Accord and Camry during that time. So the next time you jump in your Mustang, pay homage to the Taurus and give respect where it is due.

A Taurus huh... thats tuff =(

First of all, I imagine its not in great shape. For a few hundred dollars you can take it to a dealer or where ever and have it detailed, buffed, and any little dents pulled.

Window tint is usually under $150 and makes a world of difference in any car.

a K&N filter should be about $50 but will add a little more power and make a little more noise under throttle.

Don't get chrome wheels... I don't see how this little quite obvious fact goes so unnoticed but chrome is HEAVY. It might look "bling" but your car will turn worse, ride rougher, and not be able to stop nearly as fast due to what we call rotating mass.

A nice set of 17-18 inch alloy wheels can get had for under $500 and will help a lot.

With these new wheels, you will want to invest in good tires. Tires are the number 1 easiest way to make your car accelerate, brake, and turn faster.

I would finish it with a set an HID kit. Fake blue-painted bulbs don't look anything like real HID's and put out much less light on the ground. a Good HID kit will cost from $300-$500 but is worth every penny.

Also, look around for a reverse glow gauge kit. Ford interiors are awfull and one of these plus an aluminum dash dress-up kit will help.

Thats honestly All I would do, and I'm a pretty die-hard tuner. At the end of the day it is still a taurus, so I wouldn't go too overboard.

I would keep the Taurus cleaned and waxed. At least people will think you're happy as you drive by. It might make it easier to sell when that time comes.

You'll probably need the space for shopping, trips and taxi service...keep it until it falls apart. Start saving for the next car now...little by little for a big down payment.

One of my favorite websites for cars is cardomain.com. I would go here to get some ideas on what you would like to do to your car. I mean if your thirsty and you have lemons...make lemonade.

a new exotic paintjob should do the work. you may consider new chrome rims, spoilers, headlights and tail-lights. and if you want more hp....well that`s kind of tricky.....and involves a lot of $$$ :D
